3D printed a glovebox divider

Today I designed and 3d printed a glovebox divider for my TRD offroad. I am pretty happy with the results and while the fitment could be a littler better, overall it fits very well. The shelf is printed using PETG in two separate pieces due to size restrictions for my 3d Printer (Bambu Labs P1S), then glued together. The shelf is supported on each side of the divide by a support bracket that also subdivides the lower shelf area.

The biggest challenge is learning CAD software. There is a ton out there from free to thousands of dollars for a license. My cad of choice is solidworks - I both learned it in college and veterans can get a year license for $20. There are tons of online tutorials now for most CAD programs out there, so it is getting easier.

3d printing itself can be challenging, but with the latest printers/software from companies like bambu labs and prusa, it is getting really easy to get into. These latest gen printers/software are incredibly user friendly and for the most part just work. Combined with a huge volume of models already available on the internet, you can realistically get by without having to learn CAD.

How steep is the learning curve for the design phase?

I use Sketchup. The learning curve isn't steep on such things as my flashlight holder. You design the profile and then "extrude" it to the length you want. Other stuff... sure, but there are lots of YouTubes.

TinkerCAD is really easy to use and is free. There is a limit to the file size that can be created but for 3d modelling that we're going to be doing it should have more than enough capacity.

I think I added the instructions on Thingiverse. But yeah, they keep the dust out of the box and are glued with super glue. They work.

I am making them this week. If they ruin my new truck, you'll be getting a call from my laywer!

Spoiled here, SolidWorks & Bambu X1C printing PETG-CF at work. I do this for a living though, been on SolidWorks since 2001, just started 3D printing for production a few months ago. Only thing I've printed for the new Taco is a Ram mount that goes on the center oh-sh!t bar.
