I used a consumer grade Ceramic on my truck after getting the PPF applied. It works great and is less tricky to apply than the pro stuff. As far as I can tell the biggest difference is how long it lasts, and it is way less expensive.

I hardly ever have to wash my truck because driving in the rain actually cleans it up, I only wash it when it gets seriously dirty.

thank you. what did you use specifically? I’ll just follow your route.

Love to hear this. Definitely going to take my time with this. I wish I enough space in my garage to work in a closed area like the dude in the video

I used Meguiars M888, Ive used a few others but I liked the Meguiars stuff. Lot of work in the prep, I like to give myself 3 or more days of downtime for the vehicle. I do the entire vehicle though, tail lights etc. and under body is coated in Fluidfilm. Im in Iowa and the amount of salt they put on the roads is unreal. Lot of car washes in the winter.

I used Nano Bond with good results after watching Project Farm. I also use Griots Ceramic 3-1 ceramic as a touch up maybe every 3-4 washes. It does help keep crap off a bit but winter salt spray is a bitch..

From the video it sound like the paint/finish on our new Tacomas is pretty thin/soft.
Sound like a good argument for PPF and a ceramic coat….

For those who got PPF, I am curious if you got the whole truck done and what the approximate cost was?

I started out just planning on doing parts of my truck, and that probably would have been fine. But everywhere I thought about stopping the PPF it would have left cut lines which I really didn't want after seeing my wife's car with partial coverage.

Every really nice car/truck that my detail shop had when I was there was getting full coverage, and in the end I decided to just do the whole truck. I really gives the paint an extra shine, with a depth, and color much better than stock, so I don't think I would have been really happy with just doing parts of it. PLus now the whole truck is protected from most surface damage, which is a great feeling.

My detailer had the best price of all the shops I talked to, which was $6,500.

Yeah - that was my first reaction too. I went into that hoping to keep the total cost under $2,500 so that took some work for me to get to that point.

But I sold some automotive toys last year and I would have just wasted the money on food or some other none essentials. lol

Ouch. That is in line though with a rough estimate I got - $7k. This Tacoma paint is so soft, but I just don't know if i can swing that.

Totally understand. I read that a wrap can cost a lot more than PPF, and there was a Tesla model 3 in that shop getting one wrap removed so a different color could go on. That was just for fun and after another wrap they will probably have more in playing with the colors than the car is worth. Crazy times in the truck/car market.

I plan to keep my truck for a good while and hope to eventually sell it for a decent price. I'm planning to both use mine as an off road truck, a daily driver and my travel machine but still keep it in good condition. We'll see how that turns out.
