Hey y’all,
I’m in the market for a dash and rear camera. I really don’t know much about setting one up and am completely open to suggestions on ones with great quality. I’d like it to be able to record if my truck gets hit while parked/off and other than that, I’m pretty open. I know they can be hard wired in to the different aux ports or powered by battery, so with that I’m pretty open as well. I’m not necessarily needing an inexpensive one either, as I’m in the “buy once cry once” crowd.

I’ve had a couple BlackVue models for the last 10+ years and they’ve never let me down. Get a class 10 SD card though.

Currently looking at this one:

https://shop.blackvue.com/product/dr970x-box-2ch-ir-plus/

But I’m also intrigued by this one:

https://www.vantrue.com/products/nexus-5

I like getting new features every 5 years or so, so I’m due for a WiFi/hotspot compatible one… but I think Im a few weeks away from a solution. First I need my truck. Then I need to activate a hotspot subscription. Then choose a camera. Then install and test.

Just ordered a Thinkware U3000 two channel (4K front & 2K rear cameras) it also has parking radar built in and the best part, it is powered by the trucks OBDll plug, so NO tapping into factory fuse block. Had the Thinkware U1000 which was great also powered by OBDll plug in. Thinkware is a high end quality brand, it is also on sale at many places for 4th of July. I bought mine and got it for $450 USD, normally $549. Checkout Black Box My Car https://www.blackboxmycar.com/

Sale price $479 - 5% new member discount, free shipping and NO sales tax.

+1 for Blackvue in all of my cars for the last 10 years.

I’m using Thinkware U3000 in my TRD Sport. Working like a charm and easy to install using ODBII port.

Recently went down the rabbit hole of researching dash cams. I came to the conclusion that most are more similar than different. I bought the Viofo A229 Pro 2ch and the Dongar 5pin Type A adapter. However, I think you need to wire it to the fuse box for the parking mode to have power.

Viofo is top notch budget. My A119 V3 is has good video quality. I am thinking of upgrading to a dual channel version.
