Dealers are really pushing the limit... how bad do I want this?

The fact you are justifying 8k-10k markup because you claim you dont have time to save 8k-10k is exactly why we are in this position to begin with.

There are resources like markups.org. There is the literal dealer megathread here.

8k-10k really isnt worth picking up the phone or sending a few emails? Come on, man.

Yeah, I get that I'd be saving $8k (that's the markup at my dealer if you have a down payment AND a deposit) but it's not just the money. I can't really afford to take time off of work at the drop of a hat, even just a day or two and even if it's not at the drop of a hat, and I would have to find a caretaker for my animals which isn't the easiest thing to do with where I live. I was willing to consider the markup when it was estimated that the TH was gonna come in at about $50k as the final price would have been close to what I was willing to spend.

At this point, I'm just gonna hold off. Maybe look around and see what other options there are, maybe just wait and see if prices come down. I'm just thankful that we haven't gotten a ton of snow already this winter, since that's the biggest reason I'm looking to buy a new truck - my 99 Ranger has been good to me, but she's getting old and isn't quite as nimble and spry as she used to be.

I put my deposit down here in Minneapolis with no dealer mark up. I see you're in ND so you can't be more than 4-6hrs from me. Buy the car in MSP and have a transport haul it to you. Shouldn't be more than $500. Easy Peasy.

My dealer won't even tell me if there's going to be a markup. I'm friends with someone who's worked in that dealer and they told me they sell at MSRP but I'm not sure if I'm so trusting. Anyways, I point blankly told them I'll walk on any mark ups what so ever. I don't mind paying $2-3k if they've included stuff I'd get use from but thousands of dollars coming out of no where as a dealer markup if no Bueno to me. I'm not supporting shady dealer practices

Hardly anyone in this town is going to want a white manual, especially a mid sized so I feel like I'll have a little bit of an upper edge here.

Are they though? I get the deposit, that makes sense... but why do people have to buy accessories they don't need or want? What if I don't want window tint? I can maybe see saying in lieu of an ADM, we want you to buy X amount in accessories. At least I could get what I wanted. Just like the dealer trying to make me take a spray in liner on a composite bed... Calling that honest is pushing the edge.

You could also ask if dealers without Mark up can deliver. I had to do this when I was shopping for a Sienna and the closes one I could find was 6 hr drive 1 way. It came to$860 to get it delivered and saved me a whole day of commuting over a mountain.

The guy is being honest....MSRP plus a dealer package. He is upfront about it. It beats getting there and having any surprises. If you don't want any of that then go negotiate. But the real kicker is you don't have to buy from his dealership. There are tons of dealers out there not adding anything extra and you are free to buy from them.

You can buy online and have the truck shipped without stepping foot in a dealer. You could ship from across the country for a couple thousand.

Another example - I just bought a TRD Pro from across the state. I called, gave a deposit, and two retired gentleman delivered the truck (negotiated for free) to my door with all the paperwork to sign. Saved me 4 hr drive each way and never had to deal with being in the dealership.

Yes of course you can buy a vehicle online nowadays. But there's a big difference between buying a left-over and the latest hot release.

I called many dealers trying to place a deposit for the 2024 TRD Pro and so many of them wouldn't sell to me simply because I was out of state.

ah yes of course that is a problem on the 2024 Pro. My local dealer has 15 in line for the Pro. I’m first in line for Off Road Manual. You certainly have a dilemma if you want to be an earlier owner of the new Pro.

Well this was ~6 months ago and after many phone calls I managed to find 2 out of state dealers that would take a deposit for a 2024 TRD Pro, and I placed a deposit with both of them.

One was a small dealer where I believe I was #4 in line for a TRD Pro, and they could not give me any kind of time frame. That was Stokes Toyota, Beaufort, SC.

The other was a much larger dealer (Toyota of Cedar Park, TX) that told me it would be MSRP, but I had to purchase some protection package that I think was about $2k extra. At the time they said about a 2-year wait...so approximately 1.5 years from now.

All the dealers I've talked to were saying MSRP. I never paid MSRP in my life but I will have to if I decide to buy a Tocoma. I only want a Pro and refuse to pay over $55k for a midsize truck. I wish they didn't have the ID seats and a few other electronics I can do w/o. The seats alone are probably a pretty penny. And a electronic tailgate is for lazy people. For the money I could get a Ranger Rapter that has more everything.
