That is why I scan my truck for codes from time to time. More than one person with a failed transmission didn't get any warnings that something was wrong, their trucks just stopped being able to shift to all the gears. Strange stuff.

will any OBD2 scanner work with the pending codes or do you need something toyota specific?

There’s something very strange going on if people are having issues outside the tsb. Strange too that some people report zero transmission issues inside the tsb, none of this makes any sense

I'm going to make my own code LOL not going to wait for the transmission to do it.

Well so far my trans is shifting smooth as silk. My vin is not in the TSB and have around 850 miles on it. But now that I mentioned this it will probably start doing strange things..LOL

Anyone notice a lack in RPM increase at 2K RPM in first gear? Seems like when I'm gradually accelerating, my RPM stays at 2K RPM for a few seconds but my speed does increase (almost acts like a CVT transmission where RPM stays the same but speed increases). Is this normal?

I notice this with mine as well at times and have always assumed its torque converter lockup occurring. Shouldn't be an issue if that's the case... it just seems to be more noticeable with the Tacoma than any other automatic vehicle I've owned in the past.
