Well, now I am getting a surging after a cold start, 30 mph with a very small load, level road, no acceleration.
i also get this sometimes around the same speed. It's only happened a couple times and always first thing in the morning on colder days.

@Burgi, @tacorancher, @inlandsmog do the engine RPMs stay the same when that happens? I'm wondering if that surge is caused by the ECU or by the transmission. AFAIK my truck has never done that under any circumstances.

I haven't paid too much attention to it. I just figured it needs a little time to warm up. I'm not too concerned about any of it, I have the 7yr 100k warranty and if my transmission is going to blow up it will most likely happen before then.

While your engine is warming up it might just be the ECU adding revs at that gear/road speed and not the transmission at all. Or it could be when the torque converter locks, and maybe not even a problem.

I didn't get an extended warranty because none of my previous Toyotas needed one. I probably should have gotten that for this truck when I purchased it. I think when I get near the end of the drivetrain warranty I will ether extend it or get another truck. I am no longer worrying about my truck either. The transmission will either fail or not and that is out of my control.

I'm still loving my truck and having fun with it on every drive and it sounds like you are doing the same.

Mine just leaks [from the front seal]. Happend at 1,900mi. - dealer repaired. And again at 3,500 miles - waiting to go back to the shop... Probably 8oz accumulated on the garage floor each time. My floor is epoxied and kept clean; so it's easy to see when this begins...

During the first repair, the dealer tech ran the rear bumper into a concrete post [after taking my truck on a 60mi detour to his house - thank God for the Toyota DashCam!] and forgot to tell me - Service Manager was subsequently fired [or, maybe he suddenly quit right after??]. Been waiting on a Trailmaster ARB Bumper since November - now estimated at the end of March... Geez...

Oh, and the replacement Old Man Emu shock, on Rear Passenger side, that leaked out in November still hasn't arrived. They are telling me it's on "Stop Sale" and will not allow to be ordered -- wtf is that??

Get a Trailhunter, they said - - ha ha...
