@bluecrush.taco yes I would agree hence my question to Dongar. I don’t need the entire next four hours of parking recorded and then shut off. I park longer than that and really want the parking sensors to kick in and only start recording when it senses something. That is why I bought this camera. I also sent an email to Viola support with their first reply basically being a copy paste water sand which that didn’t answer anything. I will keep this thread posted if they get back.

Well here is the reply from Viofo. It appears if you are planning to use a Viofo dashcam that the Dongar Pro is a waste of money if you want to use parking mode which is a main reason for the purchase. If anyone would like to buy a literally lightly used Dongar Pro please send me a DM.

Here is their reply.

Dear customer,

Thanks for the info.
In this case, we suppose the parking mode might not be available if you use the Dongar adapter
to power the camera.

To use the parking mode, we suggest you use our HK4 hardwire kit to power the camera:
https://www.viofo.com/products/viof...et-fuse-for-a329-a229-a119mini2-a139-t130-wm1

The hardwire kit will draw power directly from your car battery by connecting to the fuse box.
The hardwire kit yellow wire wil need to connect to the ACC fuse that could detect the car's ACC status and only has power when your car engine is on.
So it is able to sense the changes in ACC signal and then enable and disable the parking mode.

You can refer to the below article to get more info about the parking mode and hardwire kit:
https://support.viofo.com/support/s...7941-can-i-turn-on-off-parking-mode-manually-

Please let us know if any other concerns, thank you.

If all you need is accessory power, then perhaps you can tap that off the mirror? I've got my radar tapped into the mirror harness, using accessory power so it turns on and off with the ignition.

Well that response from Viofo is disappointing. Viofo should allow the dash cam to allow activating parking mode manually. Who cares where the power is coming from?

Also disappointed the Dongar did not test this or even disclose it. Viofo is a big name in dash cams. I guess technically it's working as advertised because it's still providing constant power and the camera will still record normal footage, just not parking mode. But I'm sure a lot of people are buying the Pro expecting that their parking mode to work.

It wont work that way. If you read their reply you need their kit which has its own box to determine when the cam has full power or it is turned off. I know wht you are saying and I do the same for my radar detector but that just turns on and off with the ignition and when the truck is parked the radar has no power.

I completely agree with this. I would not have wasted the money on this. It is literally $60 down the drain. I ordered the Viofo adapter today. Dongar even advertises "parking mode" but if it doesn't work with the parking mode of a very popular brand of camera kind of a bust. When I was researching dashcams Viofo is literally in the top in almost all shootouts etc so you would think that would have been worked out.

The Dongar product simply supplies 12v power to your dash cam of choice in a very sanitary manner. That’s it.

Except it literally is advertised as a “the first plug and play parking mode adapter”

It should clearly state - does not work for all dashcams Like the most popular Viofo

And if all you need is clean neat 12v power the mirror tap or add a fuse option is cheaper, neater and less cumbersome. It is how I hardwire all my radar detectors.

Fuse tap is hard in the new 4th gen because it won't allow cover to be closed all the way... I'm also using a viofo A229 as they were pretty popular when I researched I did buy the hardwire kit too but went with dongar OG adapter in April... A few days ago people were saying there was a high pitched noise so when I received my dongar pro I set it up to hear the noise... Mine doesn't make a sound but I do have questions....

If switched to "timed" I can turn it on when running in the store or whatever.. But for the guy who tried parking mode (@goin2drt ) have you tried turning off the truck then switching to the " continuous mode. Maybe that will help get parking mode working... I'm sure @Dongar has tested several different set ups and maybe there is a way... They obviously want us to use their $35 hardwire kit and won't recommend 3rd party options.... but hopefully someone figures it out... For me I was fine with the OG Dongar but wanted parking mode to work without hard wiring so hope we can figure it out... It is nice to leave on running in the store but would be better to trigger actual "parking mode" recordings

Edit* I have mine connected through rearveiw mirror with no high pitched noises
