@zachavm I'm no pro either, but of course have read things in forums, but also have talked to my mechanic who is a certified Toyota / Lexus mechanic. They just said that turbo replacements aren't all that uncommon. Maybe it's just for those that drive them hard, but it seemed like something to take note of. That being said, this isn't my first turbo and I never needed to replace one, so maybe it's no big deal.

What makes you say that part will be less reliable? Turbo got a bad rap due to being mostly an aftermarket addition to engines that were not designed to handle the power. When it is designed for it like this engine it should be fine.

Note: I'm no pro. Just have basic consumer armchair experience.

What speed do you cruise at?
The speed limit at the time. Va Beach area, Interstate 264 is 55 and interstate 64 is 60. So not that fast. I'm older, so I'm in no hurry, set the cruise and listen to Spotify.

In this sense, ECO is probably less about getting better mileage and more about keeping the turbo from killing your mileage. A lot of people don't realize that about turbo vehicles and will complain when their vehicle is getting significantly worse MPG than it is rated for. People need to understand turbos absolutely destroy MPG when active and if you are getting bad mileage it is because you are driving too aggressively.
100%. I rarely see boost.

Older? I'm a 72-year-old goat, so I might have you beat. Thanks.

You got me for sure. I am previously from the Supra community, I was always the oldest person. Not used to people older than me. Due to back problems I had to get rid of it.

I’m sticking to Normal mode. I tried eco for a tank and actually got worse mileage in city driving. I drove in sport for a while but I got tired of putting it in sport mode everytime I start the truck.
Normal is a good balance for power and mileage anyway. TRD Off Road 6’ bed.

Plus, Virginia. Don't want to speed there.
You've got that right. I moved to Virginia last year and got my first speeding ticket after only 6 weeks. These people are nuts about speed enforcement, city, county and state police lurking around every corner and behind every tree.

What am I doing wrong?
I take it super easy in ECO mode and have a hard time getting 20 MPG.
Normal mode is about the same. Haven't tested SPORT mode.
Using 87 octane fuel.

I don't think that you are doing anything wrong @B-52 Gunner. My truck is the same way and my top trip mileage so far is 19.4, with an average of just 17.2 mpg. Some other people report hybrids getting the stated mileage, but mine has never gotten anything close and my dealer has no explanation.

My truck is also in the VIN range for the transmission TSB and low mileage is something other people with failed transmissions have reported. Just one more thing that has reduced my trust in this truck.

That’s kind of the conclusion I came to. ECO really doesn’t save you much in fuel economy. I’ve been using it now that it has snowed with 4HI to reduce torque and get better traction. I find that has worked pretty well.

I have just over 2,100 miles on mine and it seems that my mileage is slowly getting better. My guess is that I should be seeing close to epa as time goes on. I will say that if my wife is driving, she will always get much better mileage out of our vehicles than I do. So I do think epa or better will be achievable.

I have almost 10K kms. I pretty much get EPA city and hwy numbers. Doesn’t really matter what I do.
