The individual areas [top, top sides, bottom sides] independently cycle ON/OFF. I haven't noticed a cycling pattern yet as I have only used the feature a 'handful' ;-D of times. I find myself moving my hands to the warm spots as I drive. It's like doing the Macarena as I drive.

On other Toyotas that I've had with heated steering wheels, only the padded parts of the wheels were heated. I don't think they have a heating element in the hard plastic areas. I think it's just hard plastic molded over a metal core.

I just turn mine on for a few minutes to warm it up then I shut it off.

Before I schedule a dealer visit. Anyone here with a heated steering wheel, does the top of your wheel get way warmer than the bottom? Also do you notice the steering wheel is on a heated cycle. The steering wheel in my truck will get warm and then cools off and warms up back to temperature? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
I’ve noticed that too. I would venture a guess that it has something to do with the design of the wheel itself. I would guess it’s cooler around the conduit where the control wires enter the steering wheel.

I’m assuming it’s just heat tracing so it would have to be in areas with material that could transfer heat. Guessing they think the majority of people would use the top half of the wheel most of the time.
