Hey guys - I’m getting rid of my Falkens. At 60.3 pounds a tire they are too heavy. Combined with the E rating they are too harsh over bumps and braking is longer. I get that they are amazing tires and I’m NOT knocking them. I am not. But I want lower mass. I am also wedded to 275/70/18 as the right size for me. I do not want smaller.

Discount tire is being very gracious with my OVC indecisive ass. So I’m down to Baja Legends at 55 pounds each (E load) and Destination XT at 50 pounds each (also E).

Bajas look amazing and more capable. Destinations look OK at best but will be way more comfortable based on what I’ve read.

They are going to bring them both out today for me to inspect.

Any thoughts?

Yup, the Legends look badass. Is saving 5.3lbs gonna fix what’s ailing you? EXP or MTZ? The EXP is most comparable to the XT and the MTZ is more of a ‘mudder.’ How much time will you spend in very rugged terrain? My XT’s ARE very comfortable on road and quite capable off road. DT sounds like they are treating you well, get their opinion! Good luck!

I’m spending 5% of my time off road. I’m a shameless show pony 🤣

EXP. And yeah I think the 10.3 pound delta is what I need to make a real difference. I must be way more ride sensitive than 99% of folks here. Or maybe I’m one of the few where this is my only vehicle so it kinda needs to do everything pretty well.

Would you be open to other tires? I don't think 5 pounds is going to be very noticeable and the E load range is going to be stiff no matter what brand you choose.

Nitto has the Terra Grappler G3 in 275/70R18 at 45 pounds and SL rated. SL will be much smoother on road.

Yeah I saw that one and the grabber - but trying to stay away from SL so that my truck has some legitimate off-road ability and puncture resistance. I think the E load does impact the ride for sure but if the tire is light enough the suspension can absorb the additional sidewall stiffness. It’s when both weight and load range go up that it’s more apparent.

That's fair, I just wanted to make sure you saw all the options.

I always ran E range tires, but wanted a smoother ride for my 2024 Tacoma. This youtube video really helped convince me to give SL tires a try:

I'm currently running SL tires for the first time and so far they have been great. I'm also only off road 5-10% of the time so I chose daily comfort over puncture resistance. I have a plug kit and compressor just in case.

Wise man. Gives me something to consider.
