Looking for some thoughts here. I had a stock 2024 OR with OEM 7.5" +55mm wheels and stock BFG Trail Terrain 265/70-17 tires. As soon as I switched to SCS 8.5" +20mm wheels with falken 265/70-17 tires i noticed a strong vibration in my seat and floor and steering wheel.

Im planning on taking it back to the tire mounting place for an overview but looking to get some thoughts or if anyone has experienced this themselves?

I had the setup balanced before they were installed but i didnt get an alignment. It would be my understanding with only 3000mi on the truck and since the same tire size went on with just an offset and width change in the wheels that an alignment wouldnt be necessary. Id also think if it was an alignment issue id be feeling it pulling on me.

Im hoping a bad balance job? maybe a weight fell off a wheel or something?

Had the same thing happen to me with another truck I had. It was a bad balance job and discount tire took care of it right away.

Their machines may need calibrated? Or they have a new employee balancing wheels? The tires could be out of round as well? My tire guy had 3 chances I finally went somewhere else, cost me $80 but was worth it!

Agreed, road force balance ftw.

I had a really hard time with a set of aftermarket wheels and tires on my last Taco. Dealer rebalanced twice then claimed it was a known defect and installed a funky weight on springs inside the steering wheel [which was silly.. but free] then claimed it was my drive shaft.

Turned out the negative-offset 20s and tire combo just needed a road force balance which is more accurate than the cheaper/standard systems most shops employ.

Did you get hubcentric rings for the new wheels? I'd look at what the hub bore size is on your new wheels. The 4th gens are 95.1mm.

yeah , i got a vibration at 72mph it was a bad balance & a front end alignment that was off @ 1100 miles
new tires & wheels @ 450 miles from new.

With a new rebalance & alignment my truck is now smooth as silk going down the freeway 😎

My other tire shop said the first one only balances the front wheels when mounting tires. If the customer complains, then they balance the rear ones. Not sure I believe them, but the vibration went away.

I would agree with the other folks, it’s most likely balancing. Years ago I had a weight fall off (old clip on kind) just after an install.
In addition to balancing and hubcentric rings, it can also be the wrong lug nuts. However, anyone tightening them should notice there was still too much play in the wheel.

As this group is almost entirely composed of threads related to “aftermarket shit,” I’d ignore that other comment. Toyotas are engineered to be modified.

What kind of stupid shit is this? I wonder if they charge half the cost?

Thanks all I was expecting the worst based on my luck recently and like you mostly assumed the Tires were just completely out of balance. They admitted it was probably a total miss. Feels all good now. The one wheel was 6 oz out.
