I decided to get rid of those horrible General Grabber HTS tires that that came with my truck. I couldn't make a right hand turn without them spinning. Probably was just a rear right tire spinning but regardless, it spun.
They are just the most horrible tires on wet roads I've ever driven with. I really don't understand how they have a decent rating.
And of course those stupid plastic chrome fake cheap looking pieces of crap they call wheels was just asinine to put on that truck.
$56,000 for a loaded Limited truck and they put crappy little cheap junkyard wheels on it. FFS Toyota! What the hell is the matter with you?!
Then they put those stupid highway tires on them. I couldn't even drive on the grass because they just spun like crap.
Thanks for the vent. I'm done.

So $2800 later, I put the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT 265/65/18 (OEM Size) on a new set of rims (9" vs 7.5" OEM) from Discount Tire.

$80 instant off on the tires, $80 off the rims and there's another $40 rebate on the Cooper website until February 28.
These were about the highest rated tires on Tire Rack. I'm all about wet traction and braking when it comes to tires, followed equally by noise and comfort.

I really need honest opinions on how these look because they'll let me trade them up for something else if I decide I don't like them. I was going for the all black look but I decided on this look.
I hate all the chrome and I wish they would just match the body paint on places like the mirror Max and the door handles.
But that's just my opinion. I was thinking about blacking things out but decided against that.
(Also, is there a way we can post pictures to our profile? I don't see how. I was able to do this on the Ranger 4G but don't know how here.)

I decided I didn't want the black on black from rim to tire to truck. He's actually look pretty good with the black painted whatchamacallitss and the machined Face of the rims and a black thought thingamajigs on the outer circumference.

Not criticizing you OP, but why do people buy Limited's and then black everything out. That's what a Limited is, chrome. There was another thread about a Limited owner and all the things he was doing to get rid of the chrome. I'm not into the chrome look, that's why I didn't buy a Limited.

Iā€™ve been using the Cooper tires in my ā€˜06 for about a year now, and I love them. They do well in all but the iciest of conditions here in Canada, but Iā€™m okay with that. I have an open diff on my ā€˜06 SR, and I really donā€™t have problems getting going unless I hammer the loud pedal, then I get some spin.

I think youā€™ll love the Coopersā€™ too. And your rim choice looks great too.

Thanks for that. I didn't buy it for the chrome and I couldn't find anything else with all the features this one had without the chrome.
I respectively disagree with your part that chrome is what a Limited is.
As I gave thought to this I realized other limited in other brands I've had and not had, instead of chrome, they matched the body paint on places such as the mirror backs.
As a matter fact, I'm gonna update my post to that. I prefer the handles and mirror backs to match the paint.
But hey, it's great we all have our individual tastes and opinions. Too bad we cannot all have such constructive discussions with our political views.
I'm certain there are other vehicles that are limited that are not about the chrome.
This could've been a limited with everything else except the chrome had they decided to do that. This is just Toyota's version of a limited which included chrome but is not centered around the chrome.
I'm not big one off-roading and I don't like straight pick up trucks for those times I do wanna go off-road, plus the four-wheel-drive models hold the value better and are better looking.
This one is all-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive.
I absolutely love the all-wheel-drive part.
I disliked all the plastic in the TRD Off-Road and Sport.
I probably would've went for a TRD Pro had I been able to find one in silver.
Had this one not been loaded, I probably would've waited for a Pro.
Leather and the 360 camera is a big plus for me.
And actually, I'm not dead set on blacking out the rest of the chrome as I'm still considering it.
Edit: I change my mind about blacking out the rest of the chrome.
Those chrome looking wheels were just horrendous and really took away from the truck in my opinion.
Hope that answers your question satisfactory.
Thank you for not trolling me.

I believe that was your post I saw where you mentioned them and how well you like them.

How do you like the tires so far? They are on my list as possible replacements for the factory tires that came on my truck.

Please update after youā€™ve been in the wet stuff.

In my situation, most of the TRD premium trims were loaded to the brim with dealer add-ons and port-installed accessories. On top of that, my local dealers were barely providing a discount on those trims at the time of my purchase (April 2024).

However, one dealer was sitting on a Limited since the launch, no accessories, and offered a discount of 3K. So for me, monetary reasons mostly, as I wanted the Softex interior and I got into a Limited cheaper than a premium TRD Sport/OR.

Plus the additional Softex and interior detail, as well as the power steps (great for snowy climates) are a nice touch.

The problem with the chrome, IMO, is the Tacoma Chrome != real chrome. The only piece of real chrome, if you have it, is the tailpipe cover. Aside from that, it's all plastic overlay.

I think they look terrible. I will be down in a couple weeks to take them off your hands for a used price of course. They'd be passable on my silver TRD, but I'd suffer. (I think you made great choices!)

I don't like all the chrome but one place that i might allow it is on the silver limited.

Those wheels look good on that truck. Better than the chrome ones for sure.

I left left the chrome grill and door handles intact on mine. Highlights are ok - but the chrome on the limited is overdone.

Did the Cooper tires and new wheels make any difference in terms of ride smoothness, or is that about the same?
I was gonna post about it but I had an issue which has been taken care of now. At 79 mph it was so bad I couldn't read my phone that was attached to the dash on a phone holder.
I called them up and let them know and they told me to bring it back in.
I was heading down I95 so I went back this morning and sure enough two of the tires were not balanced correctly. I specifically told them to put their best guy or guys on that truck. That's my life on that highway especially when I'm doing 88 without a flux capacitor.šŸ‘€šŸ˜³
I took it back today and it's all good and pretty smooth, but not as smooth as it should be.
It's about the same as what it was with the original tires and wheels, so I suspect it has something to do with either the front aerodynamics, possibly with that ugly-ass lowered front air deflector or something with the front suspension maybe?
I've been through the posts about the shaking/vibration so I'm wondering if Toyota isn't trying to Cover Their A$$.
Years ago I bought a 2004 F150 and it had a little bit of a vibration to it. The TSB had them put a weight on the left side of the rear axle which corrected the problem.
I bought another 2004 six months later that had the same issue. They kept claiming there was no problem with vibration. I explained what happened with the first one and they just totally ignored me so I'm sure that came from Ford.
that's why I suspect Toyota may be covering this one up because it would be a major recall.
It should fall under a safety issue so I think all of us that have that issue and concern about our safety should notify the NHTSA and see what happens.
What say you all?
Has anyone who removed that front air deflector noticed a difference with the shaking/vibration?

Yeah - I'm not a fan of that plastic chrome either. My Limited Tundra had it all over the place and I replaced some of it with body color parts. I really wanted the grill in body color but for some reason Pyrite Mica was one of the only colors they didn't make those in.

On the plus side I drove that truck for almost 14 years and when I traded it in the "chrome" grill look just like new.

Them wheels look good with the silver. Was looking at them before I put these Tundra wheels on my Limited but was skeptical of the offset as I donā€™t like too much tire sticking out. But they look damn nice.
