I am looking into options for a good OBD2 plug in device to buy for programming/reading codes the truck when necessary and to disable my seatbelt chime and engine noise enhancement. I believe you also need to interact with the computer to change rear brake rotors as the electric parking brake will have to be released.
Are there any tools out there that do NOT have a monthly subscription cost that will perform these tasks? I am okay with spending a little more if it is a one time purchase.

I believe the Seat belts chime and engine noise can be disabled using Carista and a cheap bluetooth OBD2 programmer off amazon. The Carista app is a subscription, but they give you a 30 day free trial.

I'm looking for something that I can use long term without a subscription.
I've read about Carista and I'm trying to avoid it if possible, I want something that doesn't hit my credit card monthly

There are plenty of corded scan tools available that will do what you need. No subscription needed but more expensive.

@WKTJR1 Yes still worth it to turn off the seatbelt chimes and dings. I did turn off the Engine Noise, but have turned it back on for now. I will likely try it again before I pay for another month.

OP - for general code reading I use OBD fusion with an ELM OBD2.

My plan is to turn off all fake/additional noise, then if I want to make the truck louder I'll do an axle back. I hate noise that isn't real it makes no sense to me

Yes, try turning off the engine sound enhancement (ESE).
I left the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on.

Pay for a month and cancel. Carista is the only OBD app that has that function. There are a ton of other OBD readers that can read codes without a subscription.

Did you notice a big difference when you shut off the artificial engine noise?

I just did it with mine. It doesn't make a massive difference, but you can tell a difference in the "note". The engine volume is about the same but the artificial noise deepens it a bit. I ended up turning mine back on.

WOW & LOL! There is fake noise?
I know my Camry Hybrid and my TRD PRO both do low speed sound augmentation but I did't realize there was "fake" noise.
Sounds like the all electric Charger/Challenger trying to sound like a muscle car.
We are ridiculous!

The difference I noticed was that my engine went from sounding like a V6 to sounding like a small 4 banger. I don't care if the sound is fake - I think a better sounding engine is cool, fake sound or not.

Did turning off the Engine sound Enhancement make much of a difference? Was it really quieter?
