I’m going to be running a 285/75-17
That’s about a 33. - with little to no psi, I think it should work. I doubt aired down 35’s would fit though

My hope was to put a 275/70r17 which is around 32.2 diameter, in the spare location. Stock tire is around 31.7.
Any update on this? Was your thought to use the 275/70/17 as a spare for 285s on the truck?

The diameter is one thing, it’s the width that becomes an issue if you’re planning to wheel at all it looks like. Pics from another site with a 285/70/17 hanging way too low for my liking anyway. The poster also removed it and will haul somewhere else.

I'm pretty amazed they didn't include a full sized spare, what do folks with the full time 4wd do? I'd never run two different size tires on a drive axel, not even for 10kms

No update yet. My wheels just arrived today, but am working another week before I can get the tires put on. My thought was to use the 275 as a spare with 285s the rest of the way around. However it’s looking like 275/70r17s are harder to come by, so I might end up with an E load 265/70r17 instead in the spare location.

So based on some research and videos I've seen, I'm 90% certain the hybrids do in fact come with 265/70/18 spares underneath and they don't look awful with regards to tire width. Wouldn't this be a suitable spare for 285/70/17s. So now the question: is there something structurally different that allows these models to carry this larger spare?

My plans are to keep the phony spare underneath as a weight for the truck.

I am running 265/70 R18, so for this year it will remain in the bed secured. If I need the full bed, it will have to come into the cab, rear passenger area. My 2016 SR access cab, I kept the full spare 265/75 R16 behind the passenger seat and it nestled in the foot well very nice.

Plans for my new TRD Sport will be either roof basket, so when I need the bed, I use one of my many ramps to slide it up on the roof basket and when done, bring it back down into the bed.

Other solution will be a new rear bumper with swing gate to mount the full 265/70 R18 like a 4runner or Jeep in back and match with a low profile front steel bumper.

It will all depend on how I like the look of the front and rear OEM plastic covered bumpers before I decide. Never have I had the spare mounted underneath less for weight. Corrosion is a big deal and I am not getting down there to drop the spare in a cold rainy or snowy day.

Some examples of past trucks.

Since you have the setup, I'm pretty sure the hybrids come stock with 265/70/18s and all the pics/videos I've seen convince me they're equipped with true full size spares. Have you tried putting yours up there?

Any updates on anyone running 285/75/17? I have a set of that size KO3s coming and hoping to stuff it under there aired down with the resonator delete turndown. 🤷‍♂️

Here’s what I got which I think is the absolute best size fitment imho.

Wheels: 17x8.5 —10 Volk Racing 05X
Tires: 295/70 Yokohama Geolandar MT

The spare will have to be slightly deflated to squeeze behind the hitch. When I say slightly it means it fits without the tire being deformed. Just deflated enough so that the tire isn’t ballooning from pressure.

Here’s pics of what a 295/70 is on a Taco:
