Two days with a TRD Pro and I already want to drive it off a cliff...

Its cumbersome and complicated and I am a young tech guy...

So there are two separate steering assist systems to keep you in your lane, one for Cruise Control which can be disabled with the push of a button on the steering wheel and the other called LDA (Lane departure assist) Which does the same thing only "subtler"

I disabled LDA which in turn gives me a yellow warning icon on the dash, thing is, whenever I start the truck it defaults to on and have to fight it all the way to my destination...

WTF Toyota??

This is irritating and unsafe, I dont like my steering wheel having a mind of its own like should everyone else.

Is there a way to disable it permanently?

Thanks

Huh?

I went in my settings through the gauge cluster and turned it off, along with all the PDA Proactive Driving Assist functions. It has stayed off for months.

Lol, I thought my truck was broken when I first drove it cause of all the driving assists. Turned everything off when I pulled into my driveway and has been off ever since. My truck drives like a normal vehicle now, yay!

Don’t really disagree with you but TBF to Toyota my ’21 Subaru Outback behaves the same way re full time LDA vs centering during active cruise control. I have disabled LDA on that vehicle for the same reasons as you on the Tacoma. And I get the full time yellow icon warning when it is off too. I will also say the rental cars I have had from various other makers where the feature was turned on were similarly annoying.

I have not had time to test it extensively on my new truck yet, but first impressions were that it was less intrusive than Subaru’s. Will still probably disable it though. Esp during winter.

The lane centering while in cruise control on the Subaru has often been somewhat pleasant on the long straight sections of my frequent drive between Portland and Livingston, but if you throw in any cross winds or gusty winds from any direction I leave that off too.

Generally agree that LDA is not a good idea. I am wondering what Insurance Institute studies led to its widespread deployment.

Well that's weird. I wonder if Toyota changed something for 2025.

I had no issues disabling what I want.

Why cant you disable it exactly? i turned mine off on the drive home and it has not reactivated.
When I disable LDA a yellow icon appears on the dash and turns on again after next key cycle... the adpative cruise control turns on as well even if I had conventional cruise control set...

Yeah, the adaptive cruise control is the default for some reason. Fortunately, it's easy enough to switch between the two. Still annoying though. Take a picture of the LDA light you're talking about. Doesn't sound right to me at all. May want to consider talking to the dealership.

To me its dangerous because the truck steers by itself in some situations it shouldn't....
