I couldn't sworn I read that HUDs were included on Limited trims and above from Toyota's website. And didn't @SnowmanJPS confirm his 2025 white Pro has HUD? It would be silly if Toyota removed HUD from the Halo trims.

It is standard on Limited, PRO, and TH. Not sure where that rumor even came from.

I can swing it.

Thanks, y'all. This would be a BIG purchase for me, but something to enjoy for 20+ years. I've never had a new vic. With used prices the way they are I might as well. I'd probably pay it off in <2 years even w/o a trade-in, so not exactly beyond my budget.
TH with the 6’ bed was my first new vehicle purchase. Until now I’ve only ever had used. I wanted a hybrid with a 6’ bed and that lead me here.

I absolutely love it. All the creature comforts are so nice. Compressor comes in handy too. Same with the inverter (it’s pure sine wave). It did take me a bit to get used to all the bells and whistles since it was a decade of new tech for me to learn but it’s a pretty easy UI to figure out. If it’s not going to financially wreck you (because hooooooh boy these aren’t cheap) I say go for it!

I agree it would be strange to remove HUD. Just something to check before purchasing with the actual truck.

It is funny all this talk about having a HUD. I have had several cars that came this one. On every single car I would turn it off. Having a HUD is actually a negative for me and certainly wouldn’t pay extra for it.

For a relative $6k more, I'd get beefy shocks and UCA, three skid plates, exhaust dump, R/T tires, heated/cooled SofTex, digital RVM, HUD, 3D camera view, air compressor, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, recovery points, and a sport bar I could sell for ~$500. There's some fluff in there for sure, but +$6k upgrade for all that isn't insane.
The shocks saved me in the last snow storm; unplowed roads and heavy winds caused me to not see a ditch when I turned around in a driveway in KY and the suspension ate that hole up like it was nothing. The heated seats I use every day, sometimes even in warm days (bad back). The heated steering wheel is always on in the winter. The HUD is useful, keeps my eyes on the road - just need some non-polarized sunglasses in the bright days. I use the camera every day to park and navigate some offroad hazards.

Haven't used the compressor yet but it's nice to know it's there. And the digital RVM is a gimmick I can't stand. I turned it on day 1, and 5 minutes later I was back to a regular RVM. I removed the center headrest, and when not in use, I lower the other two headrests for a better view.

You won't regret the TH. I've driven mine for 10,000 miles and it has been immaculate. And let me tell you, I haven't babied it.

I was in the same boat as you and did the same math. I sprung for the Trailhunter. I didn't want to wait for my exact spec to show up somewhere so I just found a TH in the color I wanted and had it transferred to my dealership. Still ended up waiting about 3 months for it to arrive and paid more than I could have if it'd searched around and traveled for one.

I'd say if you can afford it, the juice is worth the squeeze. I think the value is there if you actually value all the upgrades. Also worth considering in the math is all the aftermarket upgrades won't have a Toyota warranty attached to them.

I took off the sport bar and the roof rack that was port installed. I've been very happy with my choice. Taking off the roof rack helped with most of the wind noise and improved the MPG slightly. Still sitting just under 18 mpg but that's about what I got in my last truck so I'm not offended by it. It might improve slightly with break-in though. We'll see.

If finances arent a concern for this purchase I can say you wont regret the trailhunter.

I did the same math you did, the non-trailhunter would have been like 59k~(premium package) and I would have had to pay for a lift, armor, rock sliders, bumper, compressor, wheels, tires, and those wouldn't have a factory warranty.

It's probably not the best possible value, but if you want to do most of those things anyways its not the worst either.

I've been planning to get a hybrid OR...but I need a LB. I'm starting to think, despite the price tag, the TH juice might be worth the squeeze. The OR hybrid is already a buttload and, with the add-ons I want, it's almost TH price territory. I am not a fan of the sport bar or snorkel, but the other TH perks are nice but not needed.

Ideal OR spec:
  • TRD OR ($41,800)
  • i-FORCE MAX ($4,800)
  • Upgrade Package ($4,330)
  • SDM ($1,230)
  • Long-bed...not a thing ($500)
Aftermarket
  • Rock sliders ($1,500)
  • ~2" Lift (~$2,000)
Total: ~$58,500

For a relative $6k more, I'd get beefy shocks and UCA, three skid plates, exhaust dump, R/T tires, heated/cooled SofTex, digital RVM, HUD, 3D camera view, air compressor, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, recovery points, and a sport bar I could sell for ~$500. There's some fluff in there for sure, but +$6k upgrade for all that isn't insane.

Meanwhile I'm seeing TH marked down by $5k in some places. ORs are probably similar. So relative price for me is $54k for sufficiently loaded OR, or $60k for a TH...+TTL. I could cross my fingers and wait for a '26 LB Hybrid OR, get a '25 non-MAX LB, or swing for a TH.

I see now why Toyota hid the Hybrid LB behind a big up-sale. Suckers like me are actually considering it.
I don't see use mentioned in your post. My shopping was long, I tested several models, and it included the halo models. All the models and grades were nice for their niche. My hesitation was I would not want to have a Trail Hunter as my every day and road trip vehicle even though I actually do work that is off road. As much as trail building, ski area crew and my sports are honest frequent off road use, that still means street and highway use.

Now starting 7 months of use, thousands of miles, max payload carrying, some towing, I'm really happy I made those careful considerations. I have no idea of what your use scenario is but as someone who is doing off road driving and work often, my long bed OR is still the best of several pickups I've owned, and I'm really glad I did not make other choices available.

I would’ve bought a Pro or OR hybrid if they came in a LB. Decided to go TH and part out a couple things. Although I like the idea of overlanding my reality is quicker adventures, shorter durations (big dogs at home). Primitive campsites w/bathrooms. The TH has all these adventure goodies but they all can be put to work on the job site as well.

The wife doesn’t drop deuces in Home Depot buckets (overland-style), we can afford hotels and when I’m solo I try to avoid both the van dweller scene and the dudes who just drive with their entire garage bolted to the side of their tacos. TH might be kinda more Gucci of a Tacoma but when you’re at a campsite next to a Cybertruck or R1T you look more regular and simply blend in.
