I had this plastic tapping when hitting bumps. After looking all over it turned out to be one of the liners in the wheel well. The smaller plastic one on the drivers side. The little plastic fasteners have a ton of play. I put some tape on it and plan to bring it up at the next dealer visit.

Hello Guys.

I have a brand new 2024 tacoma trd off road also. The noise going over the speed bump and while full turn/ body flexing ( either going into a steep driveway or a deep dip/ turn) it clunks. 🤔

Clean this rubber and the area that contacts the hood. Then apply some silicone lubricant or protector to the hard rubber, I use 303 aerospace protectant.

This was the fix for my clunk. I do this everything I wash the truck or it’ll start making noise again. Took me months and many dealer trips to figure out, give it a try and may be an easy solution.

If enough people bring it up as an issue to Toyota and they diagnose it then I’m sure Toyota will fix it. It’s not a huge deal to me anymore, every time I wash my vehicle I just wash that weather stripping and never hear the noise. Is it a perfect fix? No, but it’s a fix.

Having the same issue (I think?). It’s a pretty pronounced “tapping” or clicking noise from the driver or passenger side hood/A-pillar area on my ‘25. I have hood struts installed, and just began noticing it today after going thru the car wash and then having cold weather (~ 22 degrees). It seems to happen at slow speeds (under 10mph), and when the body flexes (turning sharply or cresting uneven surfaces). I would find it hard to believe that plastic piece under the wipers is the cause… how does spraying it with lubricant solve the issue? That math isn’t math-ing for me…

I have no idea how it made so much noise. I thought it was my suspension clunking. Just try it… takes 30 seconds to see if it resolves your issue
I know you posted a pic, so this is going to sound really dumb, but where exactly do you lubricate? Do you spray right on to the plastic or into a towel first and apply?

I clean the plastic and hood area that contact each other with a damp rag. Then I spray the lubricant onto a rag and wipe it across the plastic edge that makes contact with the hood. I use 303 aerospace protectant bc that’s what I had laying around and it works. The noise goes away instantly and comes back after about every other car wash.

I think it is the grit of the dirt and the friction of the hood slightly flexing that causes the noise. You’ll notice the rag will be pretty dirty when you wipe it off.

I only apply the lube to the piece of plastic that is closet to the engine bay.

I wonder if putting some adhesive weather strip on it would fix it permanently?

I’m guessing the sound went away? I just make cleaning it part of the vehicle washing process and haven’t had an issue in months.

Yep, gone. I would’ve wrestled with this forever and probably tried to trade the truck in when I couldn’t find it…. Thank you so much dude!
