Has anyone received any news from their dealers about the effects of tariffs on the price of a new Tacoma? My Trailhunter was built on January 21, so it should be arriving soon, but maybe not soon enough. My dealer didn’t have any info to share with me. Possibly someone out there is better informed?

Depends on how long the tariffs look like they will be in effect. If the tariffs cause Tacoma sales to drop by 75%, Toyota will move back to the US or discontinue Tacoma production for the USA. They won’t build more than they think they can sell and they won’t absorb the price difference for very long.

they operate for a profit and if that’s threatened, they’ll change how they operate.

Toyota will pass it on to us and sit it out. I don't think Trump understands how tariffs work.
Sadly its a tax by another name. The real issue will be the availability of parts, their cost, and then the increase in insurance prices that result. Auto insurance has gone parabolic, and this just adds more fuel to that. Its getting even more expensive just for day to day things.

My understanding is that tariffs only apply to goods that are ordered and in transit after Feb 1st, that said I'm sure there will be a lot of confusion to start out this insanity, hopefully it is short lived.

Trump targeted Toyota in 2017, so this latest push will hurt Toyota Tacoma's, and the winners will be The Colorado, Ranger, Nissan.

Tacoma can lose its #1 spot soon.

I think Tim sums it up pretty well, except for the jobs part. The jobs have openings because the wages aren’t attractive. When manufacturers pay higher wages for these jobs because it now makes economic sense to build things in the US, they will quickly fill until the job market finds equilibrium. Yes, that’s inflationary, but now american workers have manufacturing jobs, this also expands the economy‘s demand for more goods because all of these people with good wages need things and lastly, now America has more ability to respond to conflicts by shifting manufacturing to wartime needs. A capability we’ve lost over the years.

This is why I jumped on an in stock Pro. Especially at 4500 off sticker price. I'd imagine that it will take a few months to hit anyone but if I was on the fence I'd be buying my vehicle asap. Not to mention Feb-March are very high volume sakes months and i doubt discounts stay extended. This is why the Toyota special finance rates stop on 2/4

Every vehicle bought and sold in the USA is going to be affected by these tariffs since none of them are made completely in the USA. This goes for most things we buy. Even if they are built here, like Teslas for example, they contain parts from other countries or require materials from raw sources that are from outside the US. This is why across-the-board tariffs are generally known to be a bad idea. Another thing to keep in mind is that prices should not go down once they go up. Manufactured goods are generally not treated the same as consumables like food. Once the price of something like a car goes up, it stays up. These types of policies will hurt US consumers for a long time. I suggest reading about "the chicken tax," and how policies set forth decades ago are still impacting us to this day. No politics here, just facts.

There are more to tariffs than just costs. It's way too much for 95% of people to digest or understand. I'm for closing trade deficits and keeping manufacturing in house. Everyone that works wants higher wages, benefits etc but doesn't want to pay an extra $2 for milk. The men and women in the milk / trucking/ retail markets need their raises as well.

Whew i got lucky finding the truck i wanted, 25% is huge impact on prices, my question is parts, OEM for instance, my guess is these are sourced from all over im not sure, id like to add TRD skid plates, i guess ill buy them tommorow and stock pile some goodies, tires and wheels will probably be impacted as well….lets hope this all settles for everyone, would hate waiting on truck only to find out the price went up 25%. I dont think very fair ….
