Sadly its a tax by another name. The real issue will be the availability of parts, their cost, and then the increase in insurance prices that result. Auto insurance has gone parabolic, and this just adds more fuel to that. Its getting even more expensive just for day to day things.
Every vehicle bought and sold in the USA is going to be affected by these tariffs since none of them are made completely in the USA. This goes for most things we buy. Even if they are built here, like Teslas for example, they contain parts from other countries or require materials from raw sources that are from outside the US. This is why across-the-board tariffs are generally known to be a bad idea. Another thing to keep in mind is that prices should not go down once they go up. Manufactured goods are generally not treated the same as consumables like food. Once the price of something like a car goes up, it stays up. These types of policies will hurt US consumers for a long time. I suggest reading about "the chicken tax," and how policies set forth decades ago are still impacting us to this day.
