All of those things as standards would obviously raise the price tag due to parts complexity.

There are some things i really wouldnt want to pay for, because i would never use them.:
I am the only person to drive my vehicle, therefore having an electric seat makes no sense to me. As it will never be moved, ever. If i ever do, its super fast to just pull the lever and zip forward/rearward to clean.

I don't think I would want rain sensing wipers? Maybe because Ive Never used them. But I feel like I would just want control.

Don't really see the purpose for paying extra for dual climate. Cant imagine needing to vary the areas by a few degrees..

So basically, some people will gladly pay less for options that are not needed or wanted. If I was Ordering a truck from scratch, I would omit a lot of those things.

@Great White North I had the wipers on my grand Cherokee years ago that turned on by themselves. Itā€™s kinda like auto high beams. They just work. Didnā€™t think Iā€™d miss them, but I kinda do. The manual wipers donā€™t have enough low speed settings to finely tune the wiper speed for when itā€™s not just a straight downpour. They donā€™t stop until you shut them off. The auto wipers only wipe the windshield when youā€™re moving and it needs it. They spin right up when it starts raining super heavy too. Definitely a nice feature that Iā€™d take having again. If you want manual wipers, you still got em; same as the auto high beams; just turn em off if you donā€™t want em.. You never have to mess with wiper speed adjustments again. Also nice when you can keep two hands on the wheel and full attention on the road when the weather is really crazy. Just one of those things that youā€™d never miss having until youā€™ve had it šŸ˜œ

I have the auto high beams. Theyre such a great idea, but they are just too slow to work, and i end up getting flashed alot right before they shut off. They just arent 100.% perfect for all the nuances of the road. I get so worried they arent going to work sometimes that i end up manually shutting them off ahead of the time.

I have a feeling id do the same with auto wipers. I bet they would just not be 100% exactly how you would want it manually, and id end up shutting them off. Who knows.

Yeah I donā€™t use my auto beams either for that same reason, but the wipers were awesome. I only meant that they function based on the same principle. The wiper speed was better than what you could get with the manual ones, and they stop while youā€™re sitting at a light or stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. So youā€™re not constantly flipping the lever around looking for the right speed or listening to that wiper motor more than you need to LOL. Theyā€™re super loud on these Tacomas or is it just my imagination?

We all know about the difficulties in connecting to Android & CarPlay and things like that. But what are some omissions (at least in some trims) that Toyota could have done easily but chose not to? For me here are some things that are slightly annoying (on my SR5):

1) The passenger grab handle doesnā€™t go all the way through. Kind of defeats the purpose, at least for the vertically challenged to use to help get in.

2) No power outlet in the armrest compartment. I think some versions have this, but would it have killed them to add in a USB-C port or two in there?

3) Non-locking gas cap in some versions. This should be a no-brainer especially in 2024!

4) Rain sensing wipers. Not a hard add given all the other tech thatā€™s right up against the windshield even in the lower trims.

5) No ability to use touch to lock & unlock the vehicle from the tailgate. I would use this on an almost daily basis.

6) Non-dual heating & cooling on some models. Why isnā€™t dual climate control not standard? Seems like an easy thing to do.

7) A larger fuel tank. Not a lot more, but could we at least put enough gas in there to comfortably go 300 miles on a tank?

8) LED front turn signal bulbs!

9) I wasnā€™t going to mention the infotainment system, but WHY canā€™t there be an option for adjusting the volume of the JBL center channel? Itā€™s way too prominent and the only way to deal with it is to move the balance slightly rear and put the mid-range settings wayyyy down.

10) No turn signal indicator/lighting on both rearview mirrors. Even my 2013 Acura has this.

11) Finally, a bit controversial since some really like the idea of a bone-basic truck, but why not include power seats on the SR5? It canā€™t be that much more than the cost of having to run 2-3 different seat-types across all the versions? I get for some that itā€™s ā€œjust something else that could breakā€ but the tech has been around for SO LONG that itā€™s pretty much bullet-proof by now.

OK ā€“ Rant over. Do you agree? Disagree? What did I miss???
I think you missed the gas cap change made by most all of the industry. The hard to or can't syphon fuel tank system with no locking cap has a net benefit of people not getting more damage from criminals and returning to some simplicity.

A larger gas tank would be nice.

#7 is a big one. I've got the hybrid (which I know isn't built with MPG in mind) and barely getting 300 miles on a tank is a major pain. Few if any are seeing the EPA estimated highway 24 mpg, especially if driving at interstate speeds. Road trips are not the same coming from a diesel where I'd get nearly 600 miles on a single tank. C'mon aftermarket fuel tank manufacturers, get after it! Toyota put a lot of us in the market for a better option.

#'s 5 and 7 followed by 1 for me. That locked tailgate with my tonneau cover is a pain when I have to go back into the house to get the fob. A serviceable size gas tank in an off road vehicle is a must. Requiring us to carry extra gas cans isn't cool. A larger gas tank will be my next aftermarket purchase when someone comes up with one. There's no reason to not have a reach thru handle on both the driver and passenger side A pillars. I'm old, so the wipers, heaters, turn signals, etc. are a luxury as they are.

@saerandy on #7, I easily get 300 miles (480 km) per tank on my TRD Off Road in city driving. I aim for 313 miles (500 km).
The tank after reading refuel has over 50km left in it. Mine has the 6ā€™ box and is a base Off Road.

You really have a good number of miles left when the truck says you are done. I still want a bigger tank though. The best for my truck so far is only 21 mpg.

Memory seats, usb ports inside center console storage and a switch inside the bed for the bed lighting would be my top 3 list. I am currently prepping to add the console storage ports.

My iPhone connects perfectly every time and never loses a connection. There seems to be some sort of flaw introduced in manufacturing that causes this in some vehicles.

My biggest complaint is that there is no seat memory. In 2024 this is unconscionable, particularly on my Limited with all the other bells and whistles it has.

I can't set my HOME in the Toyota app either. Toyota is blaming iOS 18, but that seems like nonsense, since iOS 18 has been out since Sept and no app update has come along to correct this. It may be a minor annoyance, but Toyota simply needs to be better than this.

Never owned a Tacoma before this one and I actually removed my rear seat for my dog but I think a center fold down armrest for the back seat would have been a nice addition. Add a little more comfort to a small backseat.

Oh yes: Why is there no light in the glove compartment in any
Tacomas? I have a Limited, which one would think would have this.
The power seats with heating and ventilation could use just a bit more cushion per my wife (she loved the comfort in my 2012 Prerunner).
