Point is you'd NEVER get an answer from Toyota as to what the failure rate is compared to amount of units sold.
I'll give you the answer .1%. Amazing how much people worry about nothing. Loving every second driving my truck, and have no concerns out the insignificant number of issues.

You’re speaking my language❗ 150,000 trucks, and 100 bad transmissions - seems like a good average to me. go check a ford or GM forum on failure percentages..

So you're basing the claim of vehicles outside the TSB range on the dates of the complaints? That's no proof at all that these VINS are outside the TSB range. In other words, there is no direct evidence of a failure outside the TSB range at this point.
There is because the hybrid models weren’t included on the tsb list

I'm sure the number is still low for actual failures.. But it does make me wonder how many people are having shifting issues... Mine seems to jump/jerk alot shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd gears but other times it can be really smooth... It's easy to get paranoid with a new truck and hearing about these issues... I'm pretty much driving it and hoping for the best.... I rented a car on vacation recently it was a 24 corolla and I could barley feel the thing shifting... I'm assuming trucks shift a little harder anyway right?

My last truck was like 15 years ago and it was a manual

The Corolla has a CVT with a take off gear. So definitely not a comparison.

So 39 complaints, how many have been sold?
Complaints and much evidence that lots of people would not pass stats class.

For sure it is not good when someone has problems, it's not good that so many car makers have parts shortages so long after pandemic, but it otherwise seems better than all vehicles used to be and Toyota is standing behind customers.

That rental might have been a CVT. I've noticed it smoother when the transmission temperature climbs. Even if loaded moderate driving when it is cold helps.

With knowing some dual clutch transmissions and other 8-10 speed automatics it to me seems as expected.

The post is about awareness. Not everyone is on this site. The trans failures could be.01 or 2 percent. The more reported failures, maybe some type of recall may be preventive so no one has to break down 8 hours from home

Unless mistaken, don't think I have seen any transmission failures reported on the 2024 Land Cruiser forum. Where are these transmissions manufactured? The LC is 100% made in Japan. What does the Tacoma window sticker indicate?

The issue is with the torque converter produced by Aisin. There is casting debris (sand) left in the torque converters, which makes its way to the trans, which takes out the gears. At least that is the official story/diagnosis. It's not necessarily a transmission issue itself.

Then the question has to be, does Aisin have multiple manufacturing locations? And admittedly, related to my question, there are undoubtedly far fewer Land Cruisers being sold in the U.S. than Tacoma's.

I refuse to live life like chicken little and worry that the sky is fallin. My truck falls under the TSB but didnt stop me from taking it on a 2K mile road trip. It was flawless and loving the truck. Got my truck In March 11 K on it now and zero issues.

Same here. Did close to 2K a few weeks ago going back and forth to Maine. Plus the time I spent in the North Woods driving back roads and offroading looking for Moose. It's in the back of your mind, but I'm not going to alter my driving in any way. 11K on mine, shifts like butter. If it goes, they'll fix it.

I agree about moving on. Lots of us have trucks in range for that TSB, but we can't stop using them or constantly be afraid. My truck is working just fine at 550 miles and I will worry about it when something actually happens.

Toyota is doing a TSB because they know that only a small number of the affected trucks will fail, so our odds are good. If they thought failures were likely they would do a recall, like they did with the Tundra engines.

Here’s my take on it the more I think about it. I think what they are doing is replacing the entire trans and converter because they want these bad units back assembled so they can pin point the exact cause of failure and if all are failing the same way. Possibly once enough data is collected at that point maybe they’ll have a quicker fix for those affected in the tsb list such as a flush, filter replacement or anything else.

I think that they will always have to replace the entire assembly once the solenoids have failed. At that point there is probably too much junk circulating in the system to make a repair impossible.

Maybe they can come up with a way to diagnose what is going on before the solenoids fail. That would help Toyota and make current owners feel better too.
