Was debating on posting or not posting this, but I’d like to get some feedback on this if anyone else has ran into this issue. So my truck since new has always had a weird harder than normal downshift at that 30mph area. I took it into the dealer yesterday and the first thing they were asking was about my wheels and tires. I told them the tires were put on yesterday and I had paperwork to prove it. I asked why is it going to be an issue if there is a warranty claim on the transmission? They said Toyota could deny a warranty claim because the tires are not the same size that came on it. They told me Toyota has been cracking down on the warranty claims. Now keep in mind the tires I put on were a 285/70r17 on a +25 offset rim. My truck is a Trd offroad and came with the 265/70r17’s.

285/70/17 is nothing — either the dealer is being a little bitch or Toyota is being super unreasonable .. lots of dealers put on big tires and fully warranty the trucks .. my own dealer complimented me on my E load tires when I had them on and they were larger than yours - I asked if it was a warranty issue and he said that unless you’re stuffing massive tires in there they typically don’t care

I think I’m going to check around at a few more other dealers that are further away from me to see what they say. When they told me that yesterday I didn’t even know what to say, I kinda looked at him and said it’s a 285/70r17 tire? That’s only 1” bigger and it’s a SL rated tire.

Not to mention that it’s nearly the same diameter as the tires they put on the TH and the Pro (32.8” versus 32.6”) and those trucks aren’t geared any different - sounds like a load of service dept bullshit to me

I am a parts manager at another brand new car dealership and have only seen that happen with 3 party warranty companies. If you go up to the largest size wheel tire that the manufacturer offers either stock or accessory you will be fine. I have personally argued that point with 3rd party warranty companies and they don't care as they are looking at a way to not cover stuff. Manufacturer warranty will be no problem unless you go above what is offered and then it's really up to the dealership to try to persuade the factory . Sounds like this dealership really don't want to help customers. If it becomes a issue there talk to the service manager calmly and if that doesn't help call the manufacturer and also request a different dealership to do the work.

I’d just go to a different dealer. That one is already working against you. Don’t think the service manager isn’t aware and approving of those tactics. Service people making the most money for him is what he wants.

I wish these service departments and mark-up adding dealers would get the smack down. How many times have you guys gone in to get something fixed only to be met with stupidity, lying, and zero fucks given while at the same time getting a $50 air filter and a $40 “battery terminal clean” pushed onto you like you’re some kind of moron? How about do your fucking job and diagnose / fix my issue.

Go to a different dealer. Makes no sense when dealers often send their new trucks for add ons that cost thousands of dollars, which typically includes bigger tires.

As others have said. Go to a different dealer. If the problem continues then go get some take wheels and start the fight but that size is nothing and if that is the sword they are going to fall on then I would be an absolute thorn in their side up to and including a lemon law suit if they don't get it fixed after the 3rd try (or whatever your state is). That dealer is being a b&tch.
