Just in case someone has the same issue in the future:

My TRDPro's dash lit up like a Christmas tree five days ago and I had the following errors pop up: "Advanced Ultrasonic Detecting and Ranging System malfunction" and "Vehicle Stability Control System malfunction". It prompted me to call my dealer so I did. I got an appointment and was told that I could still drive my truck until I took it in.

These errors would kick in anywhere from three to 15 minutes after starting the truck, but on average around 10 minutes most times. Once the truck threw the errors, no driving conveniences/safety systems worked. That included things like the automatic high beams and the brake hold. It also meant obvious things didn't work like parking assistance sensors, cruise contral and lane keeping functions. BSM monitoring and the camera system still functioned, but any safety systems that relied on them didn't work. Intermittently the 12v battery charge level dropped from the center of the gauge to about 1/3 of the gauge (unfortunately it only shows 9v and 19v at each end of the digital meter).

When I took it to the dealer, they came back out and told me that the steering angle sensor was defective.

I'm a little stunned by how many functions this one sensor affects and am almost in disbelief that is the source of all the issues. They have ordered a new sensor and state it will be in next week. At that time I will update if this doesn't solve the problem.

The Car Nut YouTube channel had a video on a car that had similar symptoms and cause. Dealer failed to diagnose. I do find it strange that a newer vehicle has this failure. I also agree, the diagnostic software should be smarter and not light everything up.

Had the same issue. New sensor resolved it. Itā€™s a safety feature to disable all of the other features because most of them rely on steering wheel input data. Easy fix.

Iā€™m sorry you had this happen but Iā€™m relieved that this resolved the issue. That makes me hopeful this will be behind me soon. The truck has 4800 miles so it is good itā€™s showing up early I guess.
I do have one question for you; if you were looking or noticed, did it also do the 12v drop for you?

I didnā€™t notice but itā€™s possible. Only other thing I noticed other than all of the warnings was that my steering weight felt off.

Thank you for responding. I run my main dash cluster with all the info gauges: temps, pressures, voltage so that is the main reason I noticed it. I suspect if you werenā€™t looking for it and didnā€™t have it up you probably would even notice.

Thanks for sharing. This is great info for when our trucks are past the warranty period.

A genuine Toyota SWPS is around $325. Itā€™s part 7 in the illustration.
