Massive Oil Leak due to faulty oil filter threads. New engine block replacement needed

I've been wanting to share my story for a couple weeks now but I've been super busy lately... anyway here it is.

About 3 weeks ago I was driving down the interstate when the truck started driving weird, then lights and notifications started popping up. Short there after tons of smoke started pouring out from everywhere. I immediately pulled off to the side of the interstate to take a second to try and figure out what the hell was going on. After I turned the truck off that was a wrap, it wouldn't turn back on. Next step was having a tow truck pick it up and take it to my local dealership where I purchased it from. Right off the bat the service advisor was like "it's gonna be a while". Apparently when something major like this happens, they want to send a field tech from Toyota out to check it. 2 weeks later I get the screenshot above saying the oil filter threads were messed up and that was the cause of the oil leak and the block was going to need to be replaced. A week later he says the block has an eta of August I truly hope this is an isolated incident and no one else has this happen to them. I opened a case with Toyota directly so that will help me keep an eye on the actual ETA of the block. I'll keep everyone posted as I receive updates.


*UPDATE 6/25/24*

At the end of the day I wasn't comfortable with keeping a brand-new truck with a rebuilt engine. I reached out to the general manager about a week ago to explain the situation and let him know I wanted a new truck. Without hesitation he said I have his full support and we'll make it happen. Identical truck will be here next week. I'll have the same payment as before and Toyota is cutting me a check for $1500. Overall this hasn't been a great experience but at least they're doing their best to make it right.

I believe under law the have the right to try and repair it a couples times unfortunately.

Same thing just happened to me. Just got it back faulty threads from the factory. Now that I got it back I’m getting terrible mpg it smells terrible and it don’t even sound the same. I’m trying to get a new truck. They are calling me

Oh that’s not good, I noticed when I did my first oil change the filter kept wanting to cross thread.

I though it was just the way it tilted since I was able to get it on smoothly after a few tries

Seems worth confirming if that is the only option in Florida, because a quick search suggests 15 days in shop is all that's required to start the process and 30 days for a purchase price refund or a replacement vehicle per this site - https://www.myfloridalegal.com/lemon-law/how-the-florida-lemon-law-works

What would concern me is that they are saying it will be a short block replacement. The question is whether to trust a local dealer/mechanic to rebuild a brand new engine they may be unfamiliar with. Even if you decide to stick with this resolution, starting the lemon law process may accelerate Toyota to get the short block much faster so you get your truck back sooner.

Hopefully they put you in a new truck. The whole situation sucks, failed engine, stranded on road, and now wait 3 months to get your truck back.

Now I’m wondering if this is something that shows up right away, or something that could occur after an oil change.

How long had you owned the truck? What was mileage when it failed? Was there a recent oil change? Had you noticed any oil leaking prior to failure?

Exactly 2 weeks from the purchase day it happened. Truck only had 600 miles on it. No leaking prior

I did my first oil change at 1000 miles, no metal or anything. Thank God. It's too bad, an early oil change could have caught this. Not saying OP did anything wrong at all.

So far I have not had any issues with my TRD Off Road. 3500 miles. Knock on wood
