I agree also. Mostly clacking like banging valves or lifters.
Pretty sure what you are hearing is injector noise. This engine has both port and direct injection, so lots of noisy injectors can create quite a racket.

Interesting. Wonder what the Tacoma is? Fake V6?

In an earlier post, after having a subwoofer professionally installed, I thought the ANC was interfering with the bass sound quality.
After living with it for a few weeks I now believe it is the fake noise as bass distortion primarily occurs during acceleration. I’ll disable it and report back.

Great video and the Tundra sounds a lot better without that fake V8 noise IMO.

I have been meaning to check out a Carista module to do the custom setting for both my wife's SUV and my Taco once I get it, so it was super helpful to see how easy it is to use.

I just checked the Carista website and they don't list 4th gen Tacos, only 3rd gen. I assume that will change one of these days. You can get your dealer to change this stuff, at least they did that for me on my Tundra.

They don't list it but I have used it to disable seatbelt chime, change from 3 to 5 blink turn signal ect. on my 4th gen with no issues. I haven't tried it for disabling fake sound but I'm not sure there is any. it just sounds like every other 4 cylinder I have driven.

Thanks - that is good to know. Some things no doubt changed for the 4th gen but a lot of things are going to stay the same.

I can't get any consistent info on fake engine noise in the 4th gen. I think the best source is hearing from people like you who own them. Just because it was used in the Tundra doesn't mean it is also in the new Taco and I have seen nothing from Toyota.

The fake engine is listed as an option to turn off so I turned it off. Not saying it’s being pumped in but it’s an option to turn it off
OK, seems like it must really be there then.

Could you hear any difference after you changed it?
