I thought I read somewhere that Toyota will provide a loaner if there’s a warrantied issue that will take time to repair. That’s Toyota, not necessarily the dealer. I’ve seen forum chats with the above showing documentation.

Unfortunately, the dealer, and Toyota, doesn’t owe anything else beyond fixing or replacing the failed components. That’s dictated by the warranty that came with the truck. Anything else they do is good will. Sad that this particular dealer is lacking some good will, but give them time to assess and confer with Toyota and things may change. In any case, good luck.

Good advice. Members have sent me the 800 # for the department that could help me with that

I must have missed the interview about cup holder space. And yeah, Sheldon talks about the engine and tranny and frame and suspension, etc, in several videos.
Sheldon is a blowhard high paid billboard, if he was sincere he would have real life responses to situations , not the made for video responses…im pretty pissed on this situation and if sheldon is worth all his hot air he would address things that happen to everyday people like in this situation…

Update: Dealership just called me. Engine toast. There is no fix for it. Here is what they said: It was some nipple where the oil filter is that blew off the engine and spit all the oil out of the engine. The dealership has now put a request in for a new engine. They cannot say right now how long that will take. They gave me a number for Toyota Business Development (800-331-4331) to call for update on the engine delivery if it isn't here within a couple weeks. We discussed lemon law and Toyota buy back if vehicle is going to be laid up for 30 days or more. That's about it until I hear from someone. I have my own reservations about having a dealer installed motor rather than a whole new truck. I also asked how this would effect me at resale given it might come up in some Carfax report but he said the engine swap won't... I do not believe that at all. So the waiting game begins and today day 5.

@BronzoTaco Thanks for the update. If they can't exchange the engine within 30 days you should be set for a buy back if that is what you want.

I don't think the engine swap is beyond a dealer's abilities though, so if you don't end up getting a buy out you should be fine. That engine has been in a number of Toyota/Lexus models and has been very reliable. It seems like you had just incredibly bad luck!

I buy and sell cars at auction and I don't see this hurting its value like a serious collision would. I do understand why you would prefer a new truck but that is not likely in my experience.

So although this massively sucks for you, I think that either way it goes you will be OK.

Good luck.

Have to rent and use the reimbursement process. Get up to $60 a day back.
Might be worth checking your insurance if you also have rental coverage if the dealer is being this awful to work with. Kinda sucks that Toyota USA does not have a written coverage document online. Just "you are eligible for transportation assistance (1) under the Transportation Assistance Policy".

But then they don't say exactly what the policy says.

I hope you’ll post updates on this as it progresses. Reading this (especially the no loaner thing) is very troubling - my purchase dealer is 100 miles away and the closest dealer is 60 miles. This is my only vehicle and I drive a lot in off-grid areas. Yikes!
