2024 Tacoma Sport air dam removal / TRD skid plate soon!

Well, I took off the ugly air dam from my 2024 Tacoma Sport. Looks better already, but not perfect. See before / after pictures. I have circled in red the felt-ish material that is now exposed without the air dam. With those 2 wind-catchers, I am definately getting a howling sound (starting around 35 mph). I have purchased a TRD skid-plate, but am still waiting for the NYTOP Front Frame Cross Member to arrive. I'll update this thread with new

pictures once installed, and update you re: if the howling noise goes away (which kinda sounds like wind blowing through a cave).

The howling noise is not from those areas, it is coming from the holes that do not have the plugs. You need to purchase the plugs but until you get them just cover the holes with blue painters tape.

Oh, ok. Thanks! I'll look into trying to get those. The would have been super frustrating after getting the skid plate on and still having the noise. Thanks again, Mark

Good info, I was wondering if I could do that. Do you have a link for the skid plate and plugs, or do I just call my local dealership and ask for parts to order them for me. Thanks again for sharing!

Did you ever do the TRD skid plate? I see that rough country has one for the Taco but they don't specify body style. Definitely interested in removing the air dam while keeping it protected and not creating a noise while driving.

Are these plugs actually rubber or plastic? I purchased this same brand at a local auto parts store and they are plastic. They dont seem to snap in the hole very securely.

do a google search for this and you should find on Amazon for $6.94 3/4" 0.75 inch Black Rubber Plugs for Flush Mount Body and Sheet Metal Holes Qty 10

The OEM plugs are plastic and snap in.
I bought the OEM plastic skid plates off of an Off-road model Tacoma owner who upgraded to a metal skid plate. I like the plastic ones better than the felt ones. Haven't found a cheap enough metal one yet.

I still haven't removed my air dam because I'm worried about the felt wheel well liner getting wrecked. The leading edge of that felt is clamped against the body by the air dam and once removed, it can flap around a bit, even if you reinstall the 10 mm bolts.

Until someone comes up with a piece of metal to act as a clamp on that leading edge, I'm going to stick with the chin spoiler.

I removed the air dam and ran for about 6 months with just the felt guard. All types of driving city and highway. No real off roading. Didn’t have any issues.

I installed the RCI cross member and TRD skid plate a few weeks ago. It was fairly easy to install and has gone great so far.
