Here in Canada you basically pay $8k for a trailer brake if you want it to come with a Tacoma. It is on the Sport+ model which is a $7500 option from SR5. Plus you are saddled with a sunroof. Add tax it’s over 8k.

What is a good aftermarket one? Can you have the Toyota one added at dealership?

I suspect the OEM one could be added after the fact, but I wouldn't expect it to be available as a standalone part/kit for the first year or two because they'll be sending all of the part production to Mexico for new vehicle builds. Lots of aftermarket available - look for proportional control instead of timed. I think Tekonsha and Curt have decent controllers.

Likely a redarc trailer brake, would think it would be compatible just like 3rd gen. Works great.

I wonder if you could just purchase the oem switch and just plug it in. Did that on my f150🤷🏽‍♂️

Dealer said no, not available as a stand alone part (as you said!). I have a Tekonsha from my last vehicle I want to install. So irritated Toyota has done this 🤬

Anybody have any luck on a brake controller? I really need one on my truck soon, half the reason I buy a truck. Kind of dumb Toyota makes it so hard to add one. I read people have been searching for the harness, a blue wire etc.
