Maybe a dumb question but it looks like I may not need to carry my "Digital Key Card" if I have my phone with me.
Is that accurate? The Toyota App on my phone serves as a key?

This is very hit or miss. It worked really well for a couple months then stopped working well at random times. Coming from a Tesla I was really excited for the mobile key, sadly Toyota's implementation does not inspire confidence.

Seen a lot of the hit or miss with the digital key. Plus it doesn't work if you don't have cell service either, so...

phone app has to be open and active. Touch to open door handles won't work. I see very limited usage for it, other then novelty

As others have reported, it can be spotty. It's never not worked for me, but I rarely rely solely on the digital key.

My typical use case is that I forget to grab my key card, and end up at the store or somewhere else and realize that I'm in the wild without a physical key.

I’d never rely on the digital key as my only one. Like others have said, it can be buggy. It seemed cool during the spiel when I was buying the truck but I always just keep the keycard in my wallet.

I use the regular key because the digital one hasnt been reliable enough to work every time.

However, it is cool that you can share digital keys in case someone (for whatever reason) needs to access your vehicle if you're not present.

I agree with the other comments here. Once late fall while it was still in the mid 80s here, I only had my phone because I forgot my key fob. I had my dog with me as I exited the vehicle I hit the lock button because stupid Toyota won't automatically lock like Honda does and I'm sure others do.
I exited the vehicle intending to remote start it with the air conditioner on for my dog,
For whatever reason the app didn't prevent me from locking the door which it usually does and beeping a bunch of fast beep I was sudden a bunch of times to let me know that, speaking from experience.
Needless to say, I locked my dog in the hot vehicle without the windows up and it was heating up fast I'm sure.
I asked someone if they would call or let me call Roadside Assist. They suggested I call the sheriff department since the dog was inside saying that they would come out and unlock the vehicle but only because the dog was inside.
The dispatcher confirmed with me the dog was indeed inside with the windows up and then she dispatched deputies to me who got the door open rather quickly without shooting the windows out or planting explosive devices at the door locks.😳😁
I've been using both phone and wallet key ever since then, but I'm going back to the key fob because that wallet key is pretty thick and bulky and I don't like fat wallets unless unless it's money fat.

can unlock and lock with app or credit card, app works just fine and uses the sensor on the door to unlock and lock just have to have the app open, and the default key or guest key loaded in the app.
