Does your Bakflip bed cover leak water? MX4, X4s, etc?

I have an X2 that I've been somewhat disappointed by, mostly for customer service reasons. The company definitely feels like it's flying by the seat of it's pants and just doing their best to hold it together. I was lucky in the sense that mine was machined well enough to provide a 99.5% water tight seal.

If I had your issue, I think I'd pick up a tube of black exterior caulk and hit the joints with that. I think it'd give you a more polished look than that silicone putty would.

I too have the Toyota version of the cover and while some water gets into my 6' bed from heavy rain or the aggressive car wash, it's fine. It's a truck. I keep some essentials in a water-resistant Plano box just in case. I'm really happy with the cover.

Yea I just tried the putty this weekend, and well, it doesn't look that good. I was trying to avoid caulk as it's more of a permanent solution, but it may be one of my last options. I have ordered 1 more style gasket from amazon that hopefully can help!

That's the beauty of it, it only looks permanent. If you ever need to remove it, all you'll need is a razor blade, one of those plastic caulk removal tools, and about a half hour. It's tedious, but it's easy. Just need to be sure to select an exterior product that will work well for the temperatures you experience in your area.

Good luck with the gasketing you're trying next.

You have gained my interest! Won't the silicone caulk be extremely difficult to remove from the textured bed caps on the truck? That was my only reason on not trying it first!

(I silicone'd an electrical box to an exterior wall once, and when I removed the box, the silicone was a nightmare to remove. Concrete wall with texture, and I could neve get all the silicone off. )

I guess it depends on your definition of extremely difficult, haha. I would expect most of it to remove really easily, but I'm sure there's going to be a handful of spots on the top bed molding that you'll need to spend some time on to get it back to factory, if you ever need to remove the cover.

I know Dap makes a product called SEAL N PEEL that's made for applications like sealing drafts after installing a window air conditioner. It's designed to be temporary so it removes really easily compared to other caulk. I know I've seen clear, not sure about black.

Mine leaks at the front corners and rear corners. If washing, I think it leaks at the sides too from the spray coming at it from the sides. For the price I expected it to outperform my $100 amazon cover I had on my Tundra.
