What’s up all, just finished up this easy mod to extend the rear axle breather lines.. The factory vent is a joke, it will do its job well, but only if water doesn’t get over the top of the chunk. I shopped the ARB brand extension kit, as well as online knock offs. I’m sure they work great, but since the front diff, t-case, and tranny are already vented up pretty high, I opted to only do this for the rear.
The nipple and vent came from Amzon , the 5/16” fuel line and clamps, from the local hardware store. 8’ of line did well. Ran the hose out of the way of any moving parts and zip tied in a neat fashion. Terminated behind passenger taillight. Good to go.
Also added this cool hitch slider thingy.

I will add this to my list of good things to do. I used that fitting to extend the breathers on my Gen1 4Runner. The barb fitting is a Toyota part. I harvested mine from 22re engines. It's the barb fitting off the plenum to the brake booster (IIRC), 90404-51319, ~$13.

Fortunately, I have a stash of those fittings.

Thanks for write up! I’ve had the parts to do this for a couple months. I’ll likely do it when I swap the winter tires out next month.

Was it difficult to remove the taillight?

I know generations are different, but on my old 2010 SR5 BOTT, I ran the rear diff breather up into the gas cap area using Camry lines and fittings.

No. Two 10mil bolts, and two plastic clips. Pretty much fell out

Is the nipple the same size as the second gen?

Thinking it’s in the firewall somewhere
They're on the drivers side of the engine bay right next to and at the height of the top of the shock tower. I spotted them while installing the ARK splash shields, and they are more exposed than I was expecting. l was left wondering why the factory engineers thought that was a good location.

inside the engine bay? Not under the wheel well? Would like to locate and extend these.

Correct, there is not much of a partition between the engine bay and wheel well where they are located.

See this diagram, there are metal pipes up from the diff and transfer case, and then a short hose that connects the tube to the breathers. It would be simple to extend those hoses into a relocated breather.

OK cool, so it’s the two tubes that share the single breather? Thx for the diagram
