Do you guys put more fuel in after the pump shuts off or do you just leave it be and hang it up?

Picture of my truck full of salt for something to look at

When it clicks, I give it 20 secs then click again. Nothing is worse than a salt encrusted truck and temps too cold to wash. I'm going through that right now.

Years back I screwed up my evap system by overfilling, so lesson learned, when pump clicks off, hang up the nozzle.
That was a big issue with my previous car, the outback was finicky for ruining the evap system easily

In cold weather topping off is not too much of a problem but in hot weather expansion becomes a concern. When we paid cash for gas rounding up to the next dollar made sense, but now with a credit card I pull the nozzle when it clicks off. I’m originally from New Jersey where you are not allowed to pump your own gas and I had the attendant overfill trying to round up in the cash days and then run gas down the side of my vehicle.

I try to avoid NJ gas stations when possible, another pet peeve is having the attendant hold my credit card or stick it back in the reader while filling the tank.

Yes for those of you not familiar with NJ, you are not allowed to touch the gas nozzle. Some stations are OK with it but some throw a fit if you try to pump your own. I usually let the attendant get it started and when he walks away I’ll pull the nozzle when it’s finished. Most don’t care if they drip gas down the side. It pisses them off sometimes but by then the purchase is over.

I pump more in during cold months.

My 22 Corolla SE will hit 500-mile range in warm months, but barely 460 miles in colder months.

My TRD Sport 6MT also dropped in range in cold months.

Another vote to not top off. I had a friend who got gas rewards per tank, and she always kept adding more gas until the pump would just not start again. Eventually she screwed up the evap system in here Sequoia and it cost a lot of money to get it repaired.
