Fuel Reserves -- When do you hit it?

When do you hit it? I ask because I took a trip last weekend and ran the tank down, or what I suspected was down to where the estimated fuel range said 29 miles left, but a reserve indicator never came on, or no warnings about the fuel status of any kind. When does the reserve light come on? And how many gallons are left when it actually comes on?

On the next fuel up, I put in 14.734 gallons. My understanding that this is an 18.2 gallon tank, so that leaves about 3.5 gallons left in the tank. A bit confusing to me as I'm just trying to understand my comfort level with the fuel status of the truck. Any input would be appreciated.

If I recall, the manual says the light comes on when your down to 2.5 gallons.

Had nearly the exact yesterday. 28 miles indicated left, 15 gallon fill.

Ive ran the numbers on several forum people’s trucks and they all come out about the same. When your range hits zero you have about 3 gallons left. Your mileage may vary.

Only had mine for a few days, so I haven’t had a chance to check it for myself.

I think you have 15 liters left when the estimated to empty calculator hits zero

That’s pretty much what I found as well. My gas gauge said I had 20 miles left in the tank. I filled up the tank and it took 15.5 gallons. So I suspect that when you hit empty, you likely have about 2 gallons left. Sounds like that’s what most people are finding. I had not received a fuel warning at that point.
