SmartCap vs. OVS Expedition. I went down the rabbit hole researching both stainless steel bed caps currently on the market for the 2024 Tacoma. I watched tons of YT videos on both products.

The SmartCap and Expedition both appear to be durable bed caps that the buyer assembles at home. The major difference is that the Expedition comes with solid stainless steel sides, the SmartCap comes with glass sides.

The SmartCap is priced @ $4,400 + tax + shipping. The OVS Expedition with my 15% discount was $2,289 including sales tax (free shipping).

The OVS Expedition cap won my business in the end but the cap is currently on BO. The representative claims it should arrive sometime in February.

I would love to hear from any OVS Expedition cap owners about their ownership experience.

What retailer did you order the OVS from?

I’m leaning this way also, price is on point for the look and functionality I desire. Was sold on Alu Cab,, but damn, this OVS is $1,400 less. That’s allot of funds for other crap I can bolt on to my truck

I called today for a shipping update.

The 250 + pound pallet should ship around the end of March. The assembly instructions have been printed and reviewed.

I’m still waiting. The 250 + pound pallet should be dropped off this month. The assembly instructions have been printed and reviewed. I’m ready to go.
Dang! Thought it was lighter than that. I ordered one also, no word either. Care to share a link to the instructions?

I plan on assembling the cap on the truck bed with 2 people. Cap assembly starts with the section directly behind the bed and then loosely bolting on the passenger side panel. The instructions recommend at least 4 people to lift the bed into place if assembled on the ground.

The instructions recommend anti-seize lubricant on all bolt threads to avoid galling the threads but I plan on using blue Loctite instead.

Here you go…

the anti seize on stainless hardware is to keep them from gulling and being a nightmare to work with, I HATE stainless hardware unless its lubed

I have viewed a few YT videos where two people assembled the cap on the bed and they had no issues. I simply don’t have the space for a hoist to lift the assembled 250 pound cap onto the bed.
