There are laws at the Federal and State level preventing the manufactuers from selling your info without your consent.
Sorry chief, but you are misinformed. This is why companies always send us opt-out options. It seems California is the easiest place to opt out. I do not know the laws for Maine. You can look it up.
There is a setting in this Toyota app that shows they give our information to the insurance companies, but we can decline it. Account Settings-Data Privacy Portal.
There's also settings for deleting our personal information and privacy.
Click on the profile symbol at the top right, then click account-security settings-your personal information–manage your data. There you can delete your personal information and there's another link there for your privacy choices.

With the fob is pretty much line of sight. The lights on the truck blink when it starts up.
I learned back in the 90s that if you keep walking away from your vehicle until your key fob doesn't work, you can go a little bit further and hold it to your chin and it will work for a bit longer of a distance although I don't know how far that will go. This is not a joke. Give it a try. I'm sure you can find that on the Internet. My fob works from inside the house through two doors and the garage door.

UPDATE: I called Toyota support and it turns out that you CAN use the app WITHOUT a key fob, but there is a catch. You have to have activated your digital key through the app. Note that remote start through the app and the digital key is a subscription service so it's only good as long as your trial is active unless you renew your subscription.

Original question:

Does anyone know if you can use remote connect on your Taco without the key fob. I assumed your phone would replace the key fob. I've been successful in using remote connect without the fob but maybe I just got lucky. Is there a good tutorial out there on how it should be used properly?
They have a digital key card. You don't need the key fob to drive the vehicle. The key card allows you to unlock and lock, start the vehicle and drive without a key fob. I've been doing it. Here's some pictures of it. The only downside is you have to physically lock the vehicle when you get out of it because it doesn't autolock unless you've unlocked it and had the set to re-lock.

I can confirm that I am able to start and operate my truck with just my phone and the Toyota app after activating everything. I am assuming that my free trial is only for one year with my premium. I would pay something for this feature as I don't carry my keys with me at work and have been able to run errands without having to retrieve my key.

I just activated toyota digital key. It works like a key fob as long as you have cell service. I did remote start lock and unlock but cant use it to start car and drive with it. When you buy Limited it gives you 1 yr trial.
I have the Toyota app installed. How do use the digital key? Nothing happens when I select download. I'm having trouble understanding the features like the climate control display window, not the knows. I need help with the multimedia too. It's way over my head!

Do you know if the non premiums can buy and add this key? Asked my dealer but he didn’t know and never got back to me.

How were you able to download and connect your digital key? I can't get it to download.

I think it's an option thing. I asked my dealer about it, and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Really poor communication on Toyota's part.
I'll contact my Dealer.
