I've had my Taco since June '24 and I average around 13.5. Its a truck, I don't expect high gas mileage! My driving is mostly around town, so that doesn't help! I did get up to 13.9 not too long ago when I made a highway trip a few hours north.

Is there a technical write-up on what ECO actually does? The manual is super vague.

I got worse mileage on ECO, but it is likely I was pushing it too hard. I have 10 Ply 33's and a lift and I can manage to get 19-20 on the highway in Normal on a long trip. Best I got was 22. Part off that is my fault. In town, 15-17 is common. I built this truck for a purpose, and economy wasn't on the list. If you're bone stock, you should get close to estimated mileage. Also keep in mind, that they get those ratings on pure gas (no ethanol) on a flat road, not exceeding probably 55mph on the highway. It's not that you can't get that mileage, you just have to work on it. Turbo spooling is the biggest part. Turn on your boost guage and see what you're doing, I'll bet you're spooling it up more than you think. This isn't a light sports car.

My truck fuel economy improved greatly after the break in period and again after first oil change.
Currently getting 18mpg city with my winter tires on and lots of warm up time on those-20c or worse days.

I've had my new Tacoma TRD OR for just over a week and as of this post have 175 miles on her. I'm not sure if something is wrong with the truck, or the computer but it's the worst gas mileage I've ever seen!! Worse than my 2019 tundra and worse than my 2008 Tacoma!! The computer says I'm averaging 13 mpg!!

Now what weird is, I put fuel in it yesterday and on the way home it said I was averaging 20-23 mpg. Than poof! All day today, between 12-13.9 mpg. I haven't done the manual numbers yet but something is way off. Either the motor, or the computer.

Is anyone else having/had this issue with their new Tacoma? Is there something else in the settings I need to reset?

Note: the truck is completely stock, and mostly highway miles to/from work. Average about 70mph on the highway
Sounds like you are looking at the individual trip reading that calculates for each time you drive the truck. There are a few different ways you can set up the mpg info. I set mine up by tank, but also hand calculate every tank. Computer and hand calculations are almost identical on mine.

What needs to be reset is your expectations......99% of owners since the gen 4 came out have bad MPG relative to stated mfg numbers. Get use to it, maybe you made a mistake.
Actually, I think a lot of the new 4G owners have not owned a turbo before. They are great for making quick power, but being in boost will suck a lot more gas. @NoNo is 100% correct, it is YOUR driving style which is amplified being a turbo. Go light on the right foot and stay at 60 mph on the highway and you will see much better MPG’s. Also, those who put on larger tires are being penalized for it with worse mpg’s. Personally, I don’t care what size tires, wheels or lift you have. Anything other than stock and you will pay a mpg’s penalty and that’s on you. The Pro and TH obviously will get worse MPG’s due to bigger tires, even the off-road may be less mpg’s due to a more aggressive off-road tire.

You either drive like a crazy madman or you have an issue with your truck. No way should you be seeing that mpg in town or the highway unless you are constantly in boost floored and doing jack rabbit take off’s from every stop. Come on man, use a little common sense…it’s back in style again!!

Im not to sure if I can agree with you on this. LOL. I purchased a Trailhunter and my Manufacture window sticker says ill get 22 city and 24 highway with my all the options on my truck per the sticker / manufacture , so if we are getting 3/4 of that (17 to 18 mpg) how is that on anyone who purchased this truck? lol. I think the EPA is really at fault here haha

Yeah, IMO somebody screwed up. I see real world mileage estimates running low for other vehicles, but you are correct - that is a big difference from the advertised mileage.

My truck averages 17-18 mpg after a few months of driving, and rarely, it gets just into the 20's. It's not bad for a truck with this much power and I didn't think I was buying a Prius. lol

So no complaints from me, but I did expect better mileage than what I actually get. From what I see in forum posts, the non-hybrid trucks seem to get better mileage, even with a lower EPA rating.

Their tests are well documented and I don't see how it is their fault either. If anyone cheated it would have to have been Toyota, like VW did on emissions. But I also doubt that is true, so it is strange to see the difference.

It’s a well known fact that manufacturers MPG ratings are performed in ideal conditions that they set and the EPA allows. About 15 years ago, the EPA forced manufacturers to reevaluate their estimates because they were systematically more than 20% higher than real world conditions. Manufacturers revised downwards a few mpg, but still are approx 10% optimistic. Literally, ymmv.

My city mpg is within 5% of the EPA estimate on the window sticker. That’s 1 mpg better than my 3rd gen Tacoma.

I agree with above who say it's way too early. Drive it, let your computer figure out what you're doing and then start tracking it. My '19 started getting it's best mpg after 20,000 miles. This one has 15,000 miles, doesn't like the winter tires nor blended fuel. Waiting for summer to check it again. And eco isn't.

let the engine break in a bit and it'll improve. I'm averaging about 21-22mpg with my driving habits.
