3G CM Tundra bed is only 6" longer.... and that version can be equipped with the 32gal tank. In fact, the 6ft bed doublecab Tacoma & 5.5ft bed crewmax Tundra have almost identical wheelbases. However, the 5ft Tacoma DC is almost a foot shorter in WB. Track width is around 2-2.5" narrower for the Taco, so not a massive difference.

I think it wouldn't be too surprising if the smaller Tundra tank could drop in. But I don't think many will find that 4-5 gals is worth the upgrade. Would only make sense if the 32gal tank fits. Which it very well may, specifically for those with the 6' bed.

Yeah I’m thinking this is an instance where the dclb will be able to acomodate a significantly larger aux or replacement tank than the short bed. I’m in CA so I might be limited to just doing an aux tank as opposed to a full replacement (ugh) but we shall see. I’m hoping LRA teases some stuff soon so we can all get an idea of what our options are.

I can see why for many folks this isn’t much of an issue beyond being a bit annoying to refuel so often since gas stations are everywhere in the US ~ for me it would be a big help with all the driving I do for work.

Watching! One area I was disappointed in was the 18 gallon fuel capacity. Probably hard to even run the Mojave road on one tank! I carry 2 5 gallon jerry cans when I wheel.

That's probably the best shot of the fuel tank I've seen. There really just isn't much room. I highly doubt a Tundra tank is going to fit as a drop in replacement. I really don't think Toyota dropped from 21 gallons to ~18 gallons to juice the numbers.

I haven't seen pictures but I bet the lower trims may benefit more from a custom fuel tank.

I get about 320 miles now out of a tank with about 60 miles of driving daily on my commute, plus more if I have to travel for work. 320 miles is actually quite reasonable.. sitting for long periods of time isn't healthy. Use your shorter range as a reason to get out, stretch your legs, take a leak, etc.

Don't want to derail the thread but I'm with you on this.
We have an EV and to optimize charging it is better to take frequent but short stops. I've always been the kind of person to just drive as long as I possibly can before stopping. But, the EV kind of forcing me to take the more frequent short stops has done a wonder for me arriving at my destination without feeling exhausted. I don't hate road trips anymore.

All that said, it'd still be nice to have a larger tank in the Tacoma. For me, it is less about driving 5 hours on a road trip and more about being on a trail out in the middle of nowhere. You can get into places where there aren't many convenient gas stations.

I’ve spent a lot of time under my truck. Length wise there isn’t much room, but the current tank has a lot of wasted space. There are areas sunken in that could accommodate at least a 23 gallon tank. For those of you wonder if it would be worth it, it would be for me. I
Have the knowledge and equipment to replace it myself, so at least I wouldn’t have labor cost. Not sure if the fuel pump would be the same, but I would bet it is. They did it to cut weight and increase payload.

GX550 fuel tank is 21gal. Not a big increase but a higher likelihood of fitting.

Considering all this, there probably would be room for an Aux tank on the other side. I've never really dealt with those... how do you fill them? I can imagine a tansfer pump to move gas from the AUX tank to the standard tank, but not clear on how it gets there. Has anyone used an AUX tank before?
