Not even worth giving haters the time of day. Fact of the matter is that the 4G is the best Taco Toyota has ever produced from an engineering perspective. The only thing the previous genā€™s have going for them in comparison is their well documented reliability. I suspect in time that the 4G will also establish itself as a very reliable truck. People hate change..

I grew up in Southern California. I remember in the early 80s you could drive down to Long Beach and purchase a super basic Toyota truck directly off the car hauler for just about $5K. No extra cab, no A/C, no power windows, and no rear bumper. Toyota was definitely filling a niche market for construction folks and people that needed basic transportation (and didn't want to drive a VW bug). We've come a LONG WAY since then...

I really like the Tacoma donā€™t get me wrong, but Iā€™m still on the fence as to if Iā€™ll buy one. Toyota addressed many problems with the last gen but seriously dropped the ball on a few key areas of 4th gen design.

Iā€™m driving an ā€˜02 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew (purchased new) with 116k on the odometer and havenā€™t had a vehicle payment in 20 years. I started banking a monthly ā€œtruck paymentā€ to my personal savings over 7 years ago, so affording a halo Tacoma isnā€™t a concern as much as me being okay with its shortcomings. As for the ā€œhatersā€ out thereā€¦ I donā€™t see it as hate as much as honest criticism of some serious design shortfalls. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll piss some of you off but my reasoning for not buying one is 4 foldā€¦.

First price is too high when comparing the Tacoma to its midsize competition. It has nothing to do with many buyers not able to afford one either. Itā€™s about value. Reliability and resale value of a first model year vehicle isnā€™t worth that extra cost either, with both being unknowns
My second sticking point is the lousy rear seat room. With the front seat in the lowest setting you canā€™t even slide your feet underneath. Tied with Nissan for worst in the midsize class and Iā€™ve sat in all of them.
My third reason for hitting the pause button is interior materials and layout. Too much cheap looking hard plastic for the price.
4th is the small gas tank giving it a short range between fill-ups.
Sucks you canā€™t build/order one from the factory with all your personal preferences too. I donā€™t get that at all?

The main thing this Tacoma has going for it is all the trim packages and multiple cab/bed configurations. The main reason Iā€™m still considering a Tacoma is the availability to buy a crew cab with a 6ā€™ bed. If Ford or the GM twins had this cab/bed config., I would have likely gone with one of them since both offer better rear legroom and nicer interiors. Tacoma hater I am not, just a picky consumer being honest.

I donā€™t consider interior ā€œmaterialsā€ as a deciding factor when buying a midsize truck. I want it to be durable and utilitarian. The new Taco has the best chassis in class and a Toyota engine. The interior is comfortable and quiet. Could care less about the ā€œmaterialsā€. This coming from a guy who last owned a BMW. I prefer this

This is exactly right. I prefer this forum over TW because the haters in TW have become simply insufferable. I love my TH. Will buy again.
Same here and the sad thing is most of the hate is from people who donā€™t even own them. The admin are awful and should do a better job of weeding them out or not letting them post if they donā€™t own one. One thing to be in the forum to gather research but many have hundreds of posts that offer zero value with no intent of buying one. I have like 10 of them in my ignore list so I donā€™t even see their posts.

@Fattirz in NC you do you buddy! Some of the things you mention as sticking points are a little odd, considering the whole "mid-size" truck thing. You could just buy a full size truck and be done with it... why mess around with the smaller, cheaper, utilitarian trucks at all? You'd get your "nicer" materials, and more leg room in the back seats. As for the price, it's actually extremely competitively priced when comparing nearly everything else out there except for the "halo" specs. I do agree that the smaller gas tank kinda stinks, but I get the same, or better, range that I got in the 3rd gen tacoma per tank. It would be nice to have more range, but it's not terrible at all in my opinion.

Happy New Years everybody!!!

The Yota's are a little pricy however they hold vaule exceptionly well, 2nd only to the Porsche 911 (i'm not joking lol). Reliability is one of toyota's big selling points but your right, the jurry is still out. However for what it's worth, the engine seems well engineered and over built. Very much inline with Toyota's past "lengendary" engines. The legroom isn't amazing but it's enough for the occasional camping trip with the boys. If you are family hauling it proably be best to get a full size, my buddys Ranger is better but not by enough to matter in my opinion. Again this is all opinion, I feel the interior is best in class. Having sat in all of them except the Gladiator, the Nissan was the cheapest feeling and most outdated. The Ranger felt cheap in alot of areas, one example is the seems of the door handles plastic didn't even line up and pinched me. The Colorado was just average. The Toyota just felt built the best imo. There is a lot of soft touch as you go up the trims. But the plastic there is feels as quality as the plastic in my 20 year old 4runner which has a "indestructible" nature to it. I also love the layout, perfect spot for a wireless phone charger and it doesn't move. wireless carplay that always connects. Hvac is still buttons and nobs. infotainment is giat screen thats somehow unobtrusive.
I will say the gas tank was one of my orginal gripes and still is too some degree. However the Truck sips gas. Comming from a V8 4runner, the range is great lol.
One last point I would like to mention is that TRD OffRoad trim and up do not have the awful "Start/Stop" crap that you always after to turn off or mod out. Even the gas modles.

You're not pissing anyone off, we are just talking trucks at the end of the day šŸ˜†

Couldnt agree more, its like a shark tank over there, a lot of angry ,defensive people over there
Any question I ask in there it seems like a dozen guys want to tell me how stupid I am versus helping. This forum either attracts calmer people or is far better moderated.
