This is the issue. To confirm, when your window is open and making the noise, grab the top of the window with your hand and gently wiggle it back and forth (inside to outside/lateral). The interior rubber gasket by the A-pillar does not make full contact with the glass. The rattling sound is the truck hitting any slight bump and the window momentarily coming into contact with that gasket.

I've been toying with somehow expanding that gasket so it always makes contact - will likely do it in the spring since I don't anticipate having my windows open much during the winter.
Yup, this is exactly the issue.

There's just too much space on both the inside and outside between the window and the gasket all around. If you crack the window and then watch it when you drive, you can clearly see the window rattling around because there's no pressure on the glass and the glass doesn't contact the gasket on either side to keep it from rattling when you drive on anything but a completely smooth road.

BTW, I mentioned my Gladiator that I just got rid of for the Tacoma did the same thing, but I didn't mention that my wife's '20 MDX has always done the exact same thing for the same reason since day one. Crack the window and watch it rattle, it's not just a Toyota thing.

Almost seems like there's some reason why they're not manufacturing cars with tighter tolerances than they used to. Either that or everything is just crap now.

Dealership just called me - car is ready for pick up but has parts on order to fix the window. Didn't tell me what yet but once I know you'll know.

They're replacing the window run. It's on backorder so they'll keep checking and call me once it is in, but that matches what I've read/people have said online.

Interested to see if that resolves the issue. Part of me thinks it won’t since this has been an issue for many generations of Taco’s. Here’s to hoping though! I guess I’ll hold off on taking mine in until you report back.

It didn't fix it entirely, but it's a lot better. It will clearly get worse over time, and I have no idea why it's happening still, but there we go.

The window run did not fix the issue.

I will be pressing this issue once the weather turns warmer in my region. My dealer mentioned they haven’t seen this issue come in to their shop yet. I don’t want them tearing the door panel off for no reason.

I have a window run on order as well after I took my truck in for a service yesterday. They'll replace the run next tuesday, but assuming that doesnt fix it, have you come up with a solution? Perhaps the added felt trick works?

I didn't have this issue on my 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma, and don't now, maybe I need to lower it and check for a wiggle

Anything further to add? I’d like to take mine in to be addressed but hoping to get more feedback on what actually works before they go tearing my door panel apart.

I just got back from my service... They never heard of the problem and told me to take it back to whoever tinted my windows.... Bunch of BS...

Wanted to try this fix but I really wanted Toyota to check it out first... They don't care, but at least acknowledged my bed rail caps were warped and lifting up.... But I do have to bring it back to a "specialist" to look at it before they replace them... I've avoided the dealership since I bought the truck in April.. Now I remember why I change my own oil

That writeup KJC posted is the fix. My dealership just replaced the runner, but I assume it didnt correct it because they just added padding behind the rubber like in that post. Its all puffy now, but its not rattling.
