Figured I'd post my progress on my blackout build for my '24 WCP Limited.

Was between the TRD Sport & Limited when I was buying my truck, but was never a fan of the scoop. So, I needed to figure out how to get rid of the chrome, and quickly :)

After 3 months and approximately 5K miles, love the truck. Plan on pulling my trailer to Moab (from Chicago) next month and we'll see how she does on her first true long distance towing test.

Done so far :

-> OE TRD Pro Heritage Grill w/ Heretic 20" Lightbar
-> OE Black Lower Bumper Trim
-> OE Gloss Black Mirror Caps
-> OE Badge Blackout
-> Blackout Door Handle Covers
-> OE TRD Skid (Aluminum)
-> 18x8 RAYS ALAP-07X +32
-> Wildpeak AT4W 265/70R18
-> KYO-EI +10mm Wheel Studs
-> Ark Mudguards
-> Bedstep
-> Viofo Dashcam
-> Lomax Urethane Tonneau

Left to do :

-> Roof Crossbars (maybe a rack)
-> Blackout Tailgate Lettering
-> Blackout Tailgate Handle
-> WCS Antenna Install (if I can ever figure it out)

handle dechroming - did you buy OEM parts and swap out covers? Or did you use those aftermarket adhesive add-ons? If the latter, how much did it impact the touch controls for lock/unlock? If the former, how hard was the handle swap and did you have to pull apart the doors?

I'm intending a similar plan, doing color keyed mirror backs, matte black wheels (TRD black wheel with black/bronze caps), will do the grille swap to TH version, tailgate lettering and emblems black. This will leave me with the fog light bumper, and all 5 handles being the only chrome. I'm trying to vision what that will look like and at what point is "far enough". I'm not certain what it'll look like with the chrome fog bumper, but part of me says that the 5 handles being chrome could be a small enough "nod" to the trim level.

Just sharing the musings for reflection and others of similar thought

Iā€™m also undertaking the ā€œgreat de-chromificationā€ of my limited. Just picked it up this week, Iā€™m addition to replacing wheels and mirror caps, I have an appointment for vinyl wrap of outer door handles and tail gate handle as well as lower bumper (where fogs are). The vinyl is relatively inexpensive and apparently does not affect the comfort access (touch handles). I will post pics once itā€™s done.

Looks amazing. Did you have any issues mounting oe TRD skid plate? Iā€™ve read itā€™s tough on limited model without adding in a cross member for front 2 mounting screws.

I initially considered doing the OE handles, but they're really expensive and I didn't want to pull off the door cards and whatnot. So I did the adhesive ones - they make a few different versions, one that covers the whole handle, and one that only covers the outer portion of the handle. The one that covers the whole handle has a cutout for the touch sensor, where as the partial ones don't need a cutout as they only cover the chrome / color painted outer element, thus not interfering with the touch sensor at all.

There were mixed reviews on these but for $26 I figured why not. If you're going to go this route, just make sure you get the ones that also cover the keyhole indentation, not all of the covers have this detail. They're honestly not bad but the black is not a perfect match. I think if I were to do it again, I'd just buy the unpainted adhesive covers and spray them myself with 202 black and clear rattlecans to get a perfect match, plus that will probably last better than the paint from China.

These are the ones I ordered : https://www.ebay.com/itm/355673666970

Alternatively, I did see someone on the Tundra forum pull off just the outer portion of the handle (apparently held in with just clips and adhesive) and spray them. But he did with the handles off the door, however, I think it should be possible to leave the handles attached and pull off the outer portion with a heatgun and whatnot.

Iā€™m also undertaking the ā€œgreat de-chromificationā€ of my limited. Vinyl was definitely an option I considered as well. But for the front fog trim, the sensors are painted silver, as well as have a silver outer enclosure. You won't be able to wrap those so you'll still have silver sensors on the wrapped black trim unless you decide to replace the sensors and enclosures. Keep in mind, that's a high impact area, and vinyl is thinner than PPF - so rockchips and whatnot will reveal the chrome easily. The OE mirror caps are quite inexpensive as well, so I'd just double check the pricing before you decide on the vinyl for sure.

No, just 4 bolts instead of the 6 with the crossmember. It's still on there solid with 4 bolts. I will eventually put a crossmember on - however, can't justify paying $300 for the NYTOP Chinese-made one..... it's literally just as much as what I paid for the skid.

I've been toying with the idea of making my own crossmember out of a solid, unbent piece of 0.75" A36 steel, with integral recovery points to replace the factory ones. But not sure if it would make sense financially unless I had a bunch of people go in with me to get the pricing down on the waterjetting / manufacturing of them.

Doing the same. I purchased the door handle covers, and my set in gloss black looks really good. Super happy with this portion of the chrome delete.

So far I've done:

Tundra 20" wheels in black
color-matched mirror covers
door handle covers

incoming:
"Limited" badge covers
rear "TACOMA" decal in black
rear handle cover
black lug nuts
black chrome exhaust tip

For now, I'm not worrying about the front grill. Will see how it looks after the current set of chrome delete.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Your input is super helpful. I will talk to the vinyl guy about chips etc and may opt to replace lower grille rather than wrapping it.

Glad to hear the skid plate mounts solid enough with the 4 bolts. I will order one as the felt one on there now is not going to do much at all. If you get enough people in on making a cross member let me know! Again, thanks!

* If you are a hiker, Devils Garden in Arches has a great day hike loop.
* If you want to see Delicate Arch before the crowds, start before sunrise.

Truck looks good!

I just ordered a set. I need to find some vinyl that'll match Supersonic Red.
