Any other symptoms? That is what mine has started doing most days now too. I can live with that but it does make you wonder where this road is headed.

What was the mileage when it failed?tankk69 - I am new to this forum but had my transmission go out at 2500 mi. In looking at an earlier TSB the first letters were different in some of the affected VIN's. The numbers varied with those first letters as well. Bottom line, my impression is the whole string is important. BTW it took a little over a month to get my rig back up and running. With over 10K on it, the mileage is better and it works as expected.
literally says 2500mi in his post. What was the mileage when it failed?
What's the vin you were given?Interestingly, the VIN i was giving by my dealer of a TRD OR that is in allocation, is not on your list despite it falling into the TSB range. Does that make sense?
Not the last time I drove it. On some days it works perfectly and recently when it has had issues it has been a delayed and abrupt engagement of 2nd when going from 1st, which is usually only once when first starting to drive. It is abrupt enough to make the truck jump, like it was bumped from behind.Any other symptoms?
How does yours shift in and out of park, reverse, drive? Does your truck jump forward or backward? Not the last time I drove it. I also have that slight rumble when downshifting occasionally, maybe that is the 2nd gear solenoid also. Still waiting to see if this stuff changes or how it develops.
Nope - at least not at this time. It shifts in and out of park, reverse, drive as I expect it to.How does yours shift in and out of park, reverse, drive? Does your truck jump forward or backward?
Yeah makes sense which simply means there’s a problem… im really thinking more info from Toyota is coming soon. There are a lot of trucks out there in this vin range and a lot of possible failures for them to just let this go. Then there’s me who seems to have a trans that just won’t give up the ghost!Nope - at least not at this time. It shifts in and out of park, reverse, drive as I expect it to.
I mostly just have that delayed shift when I first start out, which seems like it almost has to be a problem with a shift solenoid. I have seen a lot of owners comment on having that. I think the transmission control unit says shift, but the solenoid takes a while to complete that. It isn't stuck so there are no codes, and I guess Toyota thinks this is normal.
These are trucks currently in dealer inventories. Also, the list is not 100% accurate.Interestingly, the VIN i was giving by my dealer of a TRD OR that is in allocation, is not on your list despite it falling into the TSB range. Does that make sense?
Well shit.. Maybe I’ll learn to read soon!literally says 2500mi in his post.
The only thing that really stood out was poor MPG's. A friend bought a similar TRD and was consistently getting 3 to 5 mpg better than I was. One afternoon I stopped at a red light, when it changed, my rig wouldn't move. I ran the shift selector from D to P and all other stops with no movement; went to the "manual" side and found it stuck in 6th gear, would not change out. Back in D out of frustration ran the RPM's up over 5K and just crept enough to get out of the traffic lane. Sat for a few minutes messing with the shifter without any noticeable changes. In D ran RPM up over 3K and we slowly moved off with a gravel on tinfoil sound. Drove about ten blocks at 20 - 25 mph to my mechanic, turned it off. Came back out about ten minutes later, started the rig, put it in Drive and it moved off like normal. Drove it two hundred miles to the dealer without an issue. When the service mgr had a Toyota tech drop the pan, brass particles were visible. A thought was that the particles plugged a sensor so the transmission didn't know it was supposed to move. Once the particles had a chance to drop off, the sensor worked. What was yours doing before and during its failure? Can you go into detail please to help the folks on this forum who are going through this? Check engine light on ? Thank you!
Thanks for that post. I think a lot of us wonder what we might see leading up to a failure. Getting stuck in 6th gear seems to happen a lot.The only thing that really stood out was poor MPG's. Your post reminds me of something else I have seen with my truck, which is low fuel mileage. Even though my truck is still below 1k miles, its mileage is a lot less than I expected. My best drive so far was 17.2 mpg, all freeway. I thought maybe it's just breaking in, but now I wonder if mileage 5-7 below the EPA number is a sign of a transmission problem. Maybe it isn't able to shift into some higher gears or lock the torque converter?
I don't want to spread unnecessary concern, just my experience. Not sure if it had anything to do with it, but most of my driving was in the "Eco" mode and got 19 mpg +/-. Since replacing the transmission I've run in "normal" and have been getting 23 - 25 routinely.@OlafTheNork That is the same for me - driving on mostly level roads, at 65-70 mph only gives me 17.2 mpg. I am also starting to have hard shifts, so I guess the failure process has started. Now to see where it leads. Good luck to all.
