Gents, heated discussion is fine, but please keep it civil and refrain from personal attacks.
Just weighing in here, this TalkingTaco dude is a walking argument. Virtually every comment is some provocation of some kind. I've seen him in other threads and the dude can't help himself.

The configurator is not matching the photo with your build. I built a 5' bed and this photo is clearly a 6'. And the interior photo shows the 14" screen and I selected the base package with 8" screen. I'm sure they will correct it eventually.

I noticed the same thing.

I do not want a freaking moon roof
And that is on like nearly all of the trd packages šŸ˜”
Me neither! I also donā€™t want the giant 14 inch iPad placed crudely atop the dashboard. Looks like we could do the ā€œTRD OR Upgrade Package (+no options).ā€ Thatā€™s what Iā€™ll hope to get, but with the hybrid powertrain.

So at least when I do the build on a SR double cab manual 6 speed it has the same tune as higher trims. Do we know if the SR double cab comes with coils? If so that may be my top choice. The only other issue with it is the color choices but I could live with that.

I think Toyota really priced some folks out with this one. I wouldn't be surprised that those dealerships with "long" waitlists will start shrinking faster than we think. Peoples situations change all the time, and those deposits were before any pricing was released.

But yeah, with prime customers at 8% apr, I just dont see how people are getting approved for 1000$/month loans or 84 month terms.

It's an upcoming election year so they're promising lowering rates which will help some.

But the narrative as a whole is going to be pretty interesting. If wages in general don't catch up, people are going to have to fundamentally change how they buy cars and how they view the purchase. Personally myself it's starting to become more and more like a home purchase. I've started saving all my overtime in order to put 15-20k down so that payments will be reasonable. And I'll plan to have the vehicle 10-15+ years until it dies and buy another new one.

I agree. Toyotaā€™s customer research led them to believe that they could still sell trucks at this price point. A LOT of trucks. Time will tell.

It is frustrating that the company seems so willing to price out the middle-class loyalists who largely made the Tacoma the extraordinary success it is today. Itā€™s a huge ask for the guy making $40 an hour with a wife, kids and mortgage to stretch beyond reason to buy what is now just a nicely equipped Tacoma for $50,000.

And for the $80K-a-year-guy above, that fleeting dream of a Limited, TRD Pro or Trailhunter? Gone, or should be. As you pointed out, no doubt unscrupulous dealers will continue to find way to slide people into 84-month loans at a grand a month, adding more debt to the pile.

The whole pricing reveal has so far been nothing but disappointing and, for me, a little sad. Whoā€™d have ever thought a Tacoma would suddenly be unobtainable for so many?

As far as the configurator goes, I guess I'm only really disappointed that 1. it does look like we feared and you can only get the heated steering wheel as part of the upgrade package, and 2. the "multimedia upgrade" is just the screen no better sound system.

Edit: also the upgrade package doesn't specify heated seats but it won't let you select both the upgrade and the heated seats?

I just reserved a TRD Off Road with the Upgrade Package and it it showing the heated steering wheel and heated/cooled seats. Not sure if the spec sheet I received is wrong or if the configurator is wrong.

TRD Off-Road Upgrade Package (5ft bed) - includes heated and ventilated 8-way power- adjustable front seats, leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, JBLĀ® Premium Audio with JBLĀ® FLEX portable speaker, pre-wired auxiliary switches, AC power inverter, Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC), and power horizontal rear window
