Well, for a while now my Trailhunter has thrown up a message when you shut the vehicle off that one of the windows is open. I was sure it was a sensor on one of the windows, but couldn't figure out which one. Finally we took it to our local dealership, where they charged me $180 diagnostic fee, and then told me that I had somehow manage to break the sensor (inside the door panel somewhere attached to the actual window glass.) I declined to have them fix it, as I feel like it should be fixed under warranty. What are my next steps?

Your service dept is full of clowns for charging you for a diagnostics fee on a warranted item. Next Step: get your money back!
Somehow you managed to break the sensor,, Huh? I would have whomever said that fired

Roke beat me to it, take it to a different dealership. Personally, I would have as soon as they mentioned wanting to charge for the diag on a truck still well under warranty.

Did you have audio work done in the truck? which could give them a reason if it looked like behind the door panel had been messed with.

Nope. I have a seat delete, which may have spooked them. But never had the doors apart.

You need to call Toyota and file a complaint. Did they explain how they believe you broke this part? The truck is under warranty—this sounds like another classic case of service department incompetence.

Find another dealership, but definitely call Toyota. You need that diag fee back.
