Howdy Y’all,

I’ve been lurking around for a couple of weeks, while doing some research on a potential 4G purchase. First and foremost, let me preface by saying that the ideal spec that I was originally looking for was a TRDORP; however, here in central Texas, they are hard to come by, and when you do find one, dealers aren’t doing much a of a discount.

This brings me to the Limited. After test driving some regular TRDOR’s and a Limited, I found that the Limited had significantly less NVH and drove significantly better. I understand that the OR is tuned for OR, but the Limited felt more like my 5th gen 4Runner TRDOP in terms of suspension dampening, especially in “comfort” mode.

My question to y’all is: Would it be worth pulling the trigger on generously discounted ($6,000 off MSRP) for a Limited rather than wait around for a TRDORP? My 4Runner has handled everything I’ve thrown at it without ever needing MTS or Crawl Control, and I’ve engaged the locker maybe twice, which makes me think the Limted could handle the majority of my off-road use with some better tires and aftermarket skid plates. My use for the truck will be towing our 3,000 lb off-road camper, mild/moderate off-roading (no rock crawling), and as a daily driver (sticking my 8 and 2 year old in the back from time to time). In addition to the tires, I would be swapping those awful wheels out. I actually don’t mind the faux-brush aluminum grill and tail gate handle.

With the discount, I’d be in at a lower OTD price point than a TRORP with the same creature comforts, minus the off-road tech…

I would love to hear some feedback from all you TRDORP and Limited owners out there, and thank you in advance for your responses!

The difference you’re likely feeling is the acoustic glass in the limited. The TRD OR premiums have it as well. There could be more NVH they add to the limited that I’m not aware of but as a TRD OR owner without the acoustic glass I’m happy with mine. I came from a 2020 3 series and this is pretty equivalent. That being said I’m looking into upgrading to the acoustic glass because why not.

Thanks for the feedback. I also noticed the OR’s are missing additional door seals than what the Limited’s have. This is the same on the Tundra Limited compared to SR5.

Get what your sensibilities value. Nothing wrong with the limited. Some don’t like the chromy look, but I think it’s fine. Nice to have all the creature comforts, I appreciate that in my Off Road Premium.

My salesman tried to get me to test drive a limited. As I remember, it was very well equipped compared to the OR I wanted and easier to get into. From what you describe, the limited should fit your needs. In reality, I think it would have fit mine just fine too...but I wanted the ability to go anywhere...even if I never need it. Also, don't claim to be the brightest bulb in the pack. I don't think you will be disappointed.

If you don't need the locker then go limited.
Great advise. If you value a quite cabin the laminated glass eliminates alot of unwanted noise. The suspension is super soft over rough roads if you get the AVS option. It's also nice to have the stuff like standard HUD, sunroof, big instrument cluster screen and big center screen. Its also easy to de chrome them if you don't like the look.

I spent about $300 " blacking everything out".
I am trying to find a cheap way to black out my fenders. With rock chips, I think plasti dip won't last long, and they seem too complicated (too many contours) to vinyl wrap.

Only thing I wish my Limited had was the locker, and black fenders. I easily blacked everything else out

I have a 2024 Limited. I came from a 2016 TRD Sport. I have increased the tire size, added a 1.5" leveling lift. I LOVE this truck. One thing that very few people talk about is that it has five different drive modes, not just three like the other models. I use the "custom" mode most of the time. I set it up for Engine-powerful, suspension-comfort and steering-Sport; you can customize the ride/drive, it's nice. I also have a 3900lb RV that I pull several times a month throughout the spring and summer. I barely even know it's there. I am truly happy with it. I don't have the Imax so I don't have the all-time 4wd. However, I do like the extra storage under the rear seat which is where the L-ion battery is at on the Imax. I color matched the mirrors and door handles because I like it better (It's my truck). The suspension is electronic and tunable, which I wasn't 100% sure about at purchase, but LOVE it. Good luck!

IMO - most of us pick and tweak our rigs for the image and/or the knowledge of real off-road capability but don’t really use it. I purchased and outfitted the 2019 TRD OR that I traded for my 2024 Limited specifically for off-roading and overland camping. It was expensive and made the truck noisier, less gas efficient, and overall less comfortable for on road use. I used the heck out of that truck for all sorts of things including pulling an overland tent trailer thousands of miles but never used more than the basic four wheel capability. I picked the Limited specifically to focus on comfortable and quiet towing for the miles to get there while still having really impressive (though not Trailhunter impressive) capability when I get there. Bonus has been that the Limited came with a number of things I would never have opted for that have become favorite features, like retracting running boards. Based on your intent, I suspect the Limited might be the best option.

Thanks. Yeah, I“m not crazy about the chrome, but for the price and availability, I think it makes a solid case. A bit of chrome delete and some new wheels and tires would be the way to go.
