Anybody think its a bad idea to run an air compressor off of the relay fuse box thats for jumping the car? The 12v under the rear seat is pretty inaccessible. The cap that flips up is used to jump the car and presumably connects directly to the 12v battery.

So looking for a good place to run the compressor.

i have an external compressor that connects with clips to the battery terminals. I just wanna run that for now instead of mounting a compressor in the engine bay

You could* but why bother popping the hood every time when you could use the bed's 12V port and get a connector or solder inline a 12V cigarette lighter adapter to the compressor?

I actually tried that exact approach. Bought a 12v cigarette to clips on Amazon. Attached the compressor to the dc plug in the bed. Unfortunately the compressor pulls 10 amps and the fuse for those plugs have a 7.5 amp fuse so it instantly blew the fuse which I then had to replace.

wow... wonder why it's got such a low amp fuse on there. I guess I won't be lighting cigarretes from the tailgate lol 🚬

the 12V bed port might have its source power coming from the starting battery. I am curious what peak wattage it puts out on that side.

IDK man, unless the back of center console is different amp fuse sounds like your compressor is designed to take direct load from 12V starting battery.

cigarette lighter ports arent good for higher amperages, thats why compressors come with the clip connectors. My single piston ARB draws around 20-25amps if memory serves.

As for the compressor, you should be fine doing that. Jump starting a vehicle is 500-700 CCA so a measly 20 amps or so from a compressor shouldnt be any issue for that little jump start tab.

I went a different approach based on the new Viair 88p with 7pin connection.
I snipped off the clips and wired it to a 7pin trailer plug. Easy high powered plug in the back of the truck.

yea I still circle back to fact you gotta open the hood and this panel just to air up & down, on a dusty trail, messing with this fuse box every time. No way man

You have an iForceMax 2400w inverter correct? These new dual DC/AC compressors are killer, but to use the DC current they require 15A cigarette lighters. I'm probably gonna bump up my TH's DC-side 12V bed port fuse; plan on running a 12V heated mattress off that side, power station off the AC side. 7.5 amp is weak sauce. Check your center console fuse rating, maybe it's higher in the cab

ya if you or anyone else has any dc/ac compressors they recommend would welcome those recommendations here. All the ac compressors on Amazon I’ve found aren’t fast enough for off road use so if there are newer and better ones I can look into that. Thank you.

Also, apparently engineering has said the Trailhunter's compressor will be an available option on the non-TH trims. So the wiring is preloaded in the bed wall somewhere. Probably just need to locate it, test it, etc. (should be dialed into your aux switches maybe?)

I think others have done aftermarket compressors on their trucks here with that same available power source intended for the TH compressor. Need to dig into the forums a bit.

I stuck a single ARB in mine. I've got a non-hybrid, so the electrical was simple. Designing the 3D printed mount was a multi-prototype project.
