sucks that it happened to you, but the top hat failure is not common and does not mean the entire truck is a bust.
The truck is amazing.

Every gen Tacoma has had issues. Being an all new platform, the isolated problems have been few. Sorry you are having issues, but once ironed out, this will be an amazing generation. After 6000km in a 2024 Off Road Premium I understand the hate. Too much emphasis on wow and not enough on reliability. Too many design and manufacturing flaws. Initial transmission problems. Brake line problems (stop sell order yesterday on 100,000 + units). Shock top hats made from pot metal that expode in potholes - lots of these on 4g and tacomaworld (hopefully the next recall, as my truck has been broken for 3 weeks awaiting parts with no date given yet). Tiny fuel tank that hasn't yet made it 400km on a tank. Glitchy entertainment system. (My driver door also went in for repair after 2 bolts fell out after 4000km.) Poor part availability when broken.
The truck should be amazing. We all love how it drives when it works. It just wasn't ready for prime time when it was released. Not what I expected from my first Toyota. There are many great things about the truck but for the price tag on these trucks some of the hating can be justified.
Yeah. This is truly a small number of issues for a radically redesigned platform. Weāve got warranties. The truck will improve every year.Every gen Tacoma has had issues. Exactly. When I post on TW, I have to brace for impact and do some meditation.
I do like to browse there for ideas and customizations cause it does seem to be a larger forum, but I haven't created a profile cause there's way too many asshats and I'd end up banned. It's just not really worth browsing tacomaworld. Mods are worse than some of the members because they encourage the trolls by selective rule enforcement.
I think that's likely true. I also think the vast majority of people are ot offroading in the trucksItās a first year vehicle, they all have teething issues. If you browse the forums enough, youāll also get a biased opinion as the majority of people are coming to forums looking for answers to problems. Vast majority of people are having little to no issues with their truck.
How do we know its uncommon? Most people with the problem probably don't post on forums. And most people who own the trucks seldom or never drive offroad or even on FSRs. I bought this truck specifically and only to drive offroad and if it can't do that reliably it is a bust for me. If I wanted an excellent highway truck I would have bought a 2WD Silverado..sucks that it happened to you, but the top hat failure is not common and does not mean the entire truck is a bust.

It will do great off-road. The issues are theoretical. Send it.I think that's likely true. I also think the vast majority of people are ot offroading in the trucks

Iāve sent my truck at speed over rutted out forest trails with zero issue. Handled it like a champ. Again, donāt borrow trouble. The top hat is a non-issue.Doesn't seem that uncommon. Lots on 4gtacoma site. When I get my truck from the dealer, I wont take my truck offroad without the icon or similar upgrade. And they're cheap. Don't know yet how much it will help but it'll be better than nothing. Have ordered a set from yotagarage but not shipped yet.
