After 6000km in a 2024 Off Road Premium I understand the hate. Too much emphasis on wow and not enough on reliability. Too many design and manufacturing flaws. Initial transmission problems. Brake line problems (stop sell order yesterday on 100,000 + units). Shock top hats made from pot metal that expode in potholes - lots of these on 4g and tacomaworld (hopefully the next recall, as my truck has been broken for 3 weeks awaiting parts with no date given yet). Tiny fuel tank that hasn't yet made it 400km on a tank. Glitchy entertainment system. (My driver door also went in for repair after 2 bolts fell out after 4000km.) Poor part availability when broken.

The truck should be amazing. We all love how it drives when it works. It just wasn't ready for prime time when it was released. Not what I expected from my first Toyota. There are many great things about the truck but for the price tag on these trucks some of the hating can be justified.
Every gen Tacoma has had issues. Being an all new platform, the isolated problems have been few. Sorry you are having issues, but once ironed out, this will be an amazing generation.

Yeah. This is truly a small number of issues for a radically redesigned platform. Weā€™ve got warranties. The truck will improve every year.

It's just not really worth browsing tacomaworld. Mods are worse than some of the members because they encourage the trolls by selective rule enforcement.
I do like to browse there for ideas and customizations cause it does seem to be a larger forum, but I haven't created a profile cause there's way too many asshats and I'd end up banned.

Itā€™s a first year vehicle, they all have teething issues. If you browse the forums enough, youā€™ll also get a biased opinion as the majority of people are coming to forums looking for answers to problems. Vast majority of people are having little to no issues with their truck.
I think that's likely true. I also think the vast majority of people are ot offroading in the trucks
sucks that it happened to you, but the top hat failure is not common and does not mean the entire truck is a bust.

The truck is amazing.
How do we know its uncommon? Most people with the problem probably don't post on forums. And most people who own the trucks seldom or never drive offroad or even on FSRs. I bought this truck specifically and only to drive offroad and if it can't do that reliably it is a bust for me. If I wanted an excellent highway truck I would have bought a 2WD Silverado..

Thereā€™s a whole lots of assumptions in the last post or two. letā€™s just chill, we donā€™t know and wonā€™t ever know the failure rates on anything. All that matters is if youā€™re good, youā€™re good and if you have a failure, big T will fix it under warrantY. Other than that, letā€™s just enjoy our trucks the best way we can.

It will do great off-road. The issues are theoretical. Send it.

So I'm conpletely oblivious to what a " top hat" was until a few hours ago but did sone research. Seems very uncommon. Has there been anything to indicate that this was a 24' issue or bad batch of castings? Is this still a thing? If so why hasn't aftermarket jumped all over it and offered upgraded pieces? I see every other piece of armor or upgrade available from at least 5 different manufacturers. I'm just curious as I'll be on sone rough gravel mountain and forestry roads in a few months and I'll just upgrade it now to save the headache if it wasn't nailed down to a batch, supplier or year. Thanks again for whoever mentioned it.

Doesn't seem that uncommon. Lots on 4gtacoma site. When I get my truck from the dealer, I wont take my truck offroad without the icon or similar upgrade. And they're cheap. Don't know yet how much it will help but it'll be better than nothing. Have ordered a set from yotagarage but not shipped yet.

Doesnā€™t seem? Well, Iā€™m convinced.ā€¦It seems like you have an axe to grind, but Iā€™m probably wrong because ā€œseemingā€ isnā€™t anything more than guessing. Whateverā€¦.UBU.

Iā€™ve sent my truck at speed over rutted out forest trails with zero issue. Handled it like a champ. Again, donā€™t borrow trouble. The top hat is a non-issue.

look at the amount of people that reported transmission problems when everyone was still taking delivery of in range vehicles and the amount of people that complain about top hat failures. completely different volume. sucks that it happened to you, but again, N=1 doe not mean the model is bad. you took delivery in feb 24. standard teething issues for a 1st year.
