I’ve never had a truck without a trailer brake controller until now. This issue really grinds me. So much so that I may prematurely consider another truck in another year or so. Either upgrade trim level (though I like an Off Road with a 6ft box) or move to a Tundra or back to a Sierra.
Hell I was just now made aware of that by reading this. Now granted I haven't looked or own anything small enough to tow with this thing. I agree 100% that it should be a standard option on any pickup. He'll a Ford Maverick probably has one.

The issue is even if they do not offer a factory option, Toyota has not made it easy to add an aftermarket trailer brake controller like we used to on trucks before. Yet they advertise its tow capacity.
I didn’t upgrade $4000 to get a model with it as I didn’t really need the other options and thought I’d add an aftermarket one. As well, here the upgraded Off Road only has the 5’ box so I’d have to get a Sport.
It’s like Toyota is saying it is a truck, but only for doing some truck things. For a complete truck get something else. 😆

I love my 2024 tacoma, the only comment I will ever make on my truck is the storage kinda sucks but other then that I love this truck, I'm just disappointed that there no room for subs behind the back seat

The storage REALLY sucks. I usually keep a 12ga shotgun or rifle under my rear truck seats. The only thing that fits in mine is a SBR Ar15 behind the seat on passenger side. I don't like not having access to it from my exit side of vehicle. Hopefully never need it but I like to have it on me. I'm still back and forth on the retrax tonneau or a weathguard tool box due to lack of storage. I've not had a tool box on a truck in 20 yrs. They've always had enough storage for a few habd tools, paper towels, rifle, impact gun when traveling etc.

I guess that I assumed it was contained within in infotainment system. Hell it has a 7 pin on the back of it. I just assumed it had brake options. What are guys doing with campers?

Love my 4th gen, upgraded from a 2nd gen. Only thing I miss is an access door. Other than that this is much better.

After 6000km in a 2024 Off Road Premium I understand the hate. Too much emphasis on wow and not enough on reliability. Too many design and manufacturing flaws. Initial transmission problems. Brake line problems (stop sell order yesterday on 100,000 + units). Shock top hats made from pot metal that expode in potholes - lots of these on 4g and tacomaworld (hopefully the next recall, as my truck has been broken for 3 weeks awaiting parts with no date given yet). Tiny fuel tank that hasn't yet made it 400km on a tank. Glitchy entertainment system. (My driver door also went in for repair after 2 bolts fell out after 4000km.) Poor part availability when broken.

The truck should be amazing. We all love how it drives when it works. It just wasn't ready for prime time when it was released. Not what I expected from my first Toyota. There are many great things about the truck but for the price tag on these trucks some of the hating can be justified.

While I can understand being dissatisfied somewhat we also need to take things into context. I deal with quite a few new Chevys, Fords, International, Mack trucks in my business as well as Deere, Cat equipment and none of them have been without first year or build teething issues. This is one reason that will not not purchase a first year build. I had 2 100k bobcat T76 loaders that Bobcat couldn't keep running due to design issues and build. I webt to Deere and I've had injectors replaced at 700 hrs 7k under warranty and a few other issues, new Cat 306 excavator has had 2 touch screen monitors in the first 50 hrs, new Mack triaxkes in shop for 3 months due to emissions issues 300k trucks. A few friends bought 2020 chevy diesels and 3 out of the 5 lost conplete transmissions in under 20k miles etc. The loose bolts are a assembly issue, the tank a design and I've never heard of a pothole blowing off a shock tower on any vehicle but maybe it's happening somewhere to sone trucks. I'd be concerned with the shock valve exploding if you hit a pothole that hard but maybe I have lower or more realistic expectations.

It’s a first year vehicle, they all have teething issues. If you browse the forums enough, you’ll also get a biased opinion as the majority of people are coming to forums looking for answers to problems. Vast majority of people are having little to no issues with their truck.

My only design complaint is the turning radius. Some other small issues but I feel that one daily coming out of my small city garage.

As a 2024 Tacoma owner I don’t understand the hate that this generation of truck gets. Previously I drove a 2021 f150 with the 3.5l and 10 speed automatic. This is my first midsize truck. The 8 speed automatic is a night and day difference compared to the 10 speed, I’ve never missed a shift and the 2.4l is very responsive and doesn’t feel underpowered. I’ve never driven a 3rd gen Tacoma however I have always heard that the main gripe with those trucks were the outdated materials and lack of power. It seems that this generation has addressed both concerns and provided a smoother transmission. If ford can make a 2.7 l eco boost that lasts upwards of 200k miles why are some assuming that the 2.4l will not also meet or exceed that mark? I feel that Toyota still makes the best midsize pickup and I am happy with my purchase. (Besides the trailer brake controller issue that is a huge pain in the ass)
It’s the same people who came out hating on the 3rd gen that all of a sudden resurfaced to hate on the 4th gen. But wait, here is where it gets good bc those haters are now all saying that the 3rd generation is better. Haha lunatics. It’s simply jealousy at the end of the day!
