4th gen hate

As a 2024 Tacoma owner I don’t understand the hate that this generation of truck gets. Previously I drove a 2021 f150 with the 3.5l and 10 speed automatic. This is my first midsize truck. The 8 speed automatic is a night and day difference compared to the 10 speed, I’ve never missed a shift and the 2.4l is very responsive and doesn’t feel underpowered. I’ve never driven a 3rd gen Tacoma however I have always heard that the main gripe with those trucks were the outdated materials and lack of power. It seems that this generation has addressed both concerns and provided a smoother transmission. If ford can make a 2.7 l eco boost that lasts upwards of 200k miles why are some assuming that the 2.4l will not also meet or exceed that mark? I feel that Toyota still makes the best midsize pickup and I am happy with my purchase. (Besides the trailer brake controller issue that is a huge pain in the ass)

Maybe reading the wrong forums? just joking… I’ve gotten a ton of for my 4th Gen Tacoma. Lots of “nice truck” and “Love that Color!” (Solar Octane).

People don't like change, especially these Tacoma guys. Also a lot of truck guys genuinely believe that you can have a truck, or you can have a vehicle with luxury technology, but you can't have two in one. Wanna-be cowboys or something I don't know.

The guy above me said it as a joke, but it's true, you're listening to people in the wrong places. I won't mention the name, but there's one big Tacoma community that I find completely toxic, and us 4th gen folks definitely weren't welcome there, although they're slowly giving in, I try to avoid that community like the plague.

When the 4th gen was first released it was hated on hard, now it's been a year and the hate is slowly dying down and we're seeing more and more 3rd gen owners come into the 4th gen world and admit their hatred was fuel by no facts, all talk.

We're seeing the exact same thing with the new 4Runner generation too now, I poke my head in every now and then on Facebook groups to remind them that the troll posts and hate towards them will eventually die too.

Doesn't help the got rid of the V6. I personally was never a fan of that underpowered V6, but for a lot of people it's like taking candy away from a toddler lol. Now, give me Tundra's V6 and I won't complain.

Look at when the 3rd gens were released, same kind've hate that eventually died off, I'm sure the 2nd gen had the same to. The 4th gen is much stronger, the 3rd gen was a big step up from the 2nd gen but the 4th gen is like ripping a bandaid off for most lol. All new "scary" technology, whole new look, whole new power train and running gear, it's a whole new truck period.

Long story short, the hatred is fueled by hardcore Tacoma fanboys with no facts to back their claims, some eventually make the jump to the newer gens, and some stay in the corner mumbling on like a old senile grandpa.

Once these trucks really start putting on some kms and proving their just as reliable as any other Tacoma Toyota has made, people will warm up. Lots of fear, uncertainty and doubt.

People love to hate the top dog is the first phenomenon (number 1 midsized selling pickup in the USA for 20 years or something). Second, Tacoma people are just never happy with anything ever and love to complain. You see that the most in Tacomaworld. That’s why I spend my time here. Last, there is this fallacy that the older thing is the better thing and it always seems that it becomes the classic “they don’t make em’ like they used to” right when they become unavailable. You would have thought the third gen was the worst vehicle ever made in the TW forum right up until the fourth gen came out - now it’s like an early 1990s Landcruiser legendary status built by hand from a block of steel bulletproof icon truck. It’s silly. I stand by my comments earlier that this new truck will stand the test of time and will be more or less just as reliable as the prior gen’s (even if there are hiccups and quirks along the way). Ready to eat my words.

Specially in person, they all act like they are the sh*t and we are a bunch dumb clucks who does not know what to do with their money. I just tend to avoid them, I am too old to participate in such drama. I do not need to justify to anyone why I bought my truck nor why I like it.

If you want to be hated on try buying a Ridgeline! To start with it's not a real truck and things quickly go downhill from there. If I'd known last fall what I know now I'd have gotten a Tacoma instead. Long story short but I'm actually completely happy with the truck it's one sentence in the owner's manual that restricts GCWR with elevation that has me wishing I had a Tacoma instead. The Ridgeline is my first Honda and it will be my last.

Even so the Tacoma is a little better at truck like things and I see no reason to hate on it other than change always delights some and offends others. The offended are usually louder and more willing to speak than the delighted.

I took an instant like to the guy in the video. He is by turns insightful, humorous, and infuriating. Surely by the end he offended all of us at least a little. Pickups all used to be work trucks and were priced accordingly. Now the high end models rival luxury cars and while they may not have all the features the low end models still have some of the structural changes needed to allow those features to be added to the high end and so they are more expensive too.

Honda may have been at the forefront of driving the prices up. Most of the time I use the Ridgeline as our second car and I appreciate the driver assistance features that I first came to love in our Rav4. They add cost but also value. They also made it easier to sell my wife on the pickup idea.

Now, like many here, I wanted a pickup to do pickup things. I'm neither a contractor nor an off roader but I do need to haul messy and large stuff home from the home center on occasion. Things that won't fit the Rav4, things you just don't want to put in the Rav4. But our biggest reason for getting a pickup was to pull the travel trailer we bought a couple of weeks later. A pickup is an excellent fit for what we wanted to do with the new vehicle, it wasn't a poser's fashion statement in our case.

I've owned three turbo engines, all VW, one Diesel. All were reliable, efficient, and a delight to drive. Hating on turbos is passe and they are quite common in Pickups these days, not just Tacomas.

As some have said, the hate will die out as people have time to adjust and the early adopters have time to reassure the doubters that life is still good.

I really wanted a Ridgeline. I couldn’t get over the fact that it is seventh (out of seven) in resale. Even the Frontier has better resale. Chose a Tacoma and am happy with it.

Tacomaworld is a cesspool of toxins…..People have a lot of anger over there.
People dislike what they dont have or cant afford, or many are upside down in their trucks, tried to trade, found out they traded to many times and are over buried in negative equity, …soo. They nit pick everything for the 4G , only trying to convince themselves they are so happy with current truck, lol. Its a circle.

This is the only forum that I'm a member of. I've had my various gripes but I've had those with any new machine or vehicle that I've purchased. I'm overall 95% happy with my 25 TRD Pro. I'd like the iso seats as an option, the battery somewhere besides under the rear seat and 35mpg with same hp and torque ratings. I think that my seat complaint is the only issue that could be realistically resolved. I'm coming from.an 03 access cab that had 300k miles and I welded up the frame 3x to make it somewhat safe to drive. My yoga prior to that was a 1986 with 22re. This is my first new or newer Tacoma and I really like the truck. I think the guys stating " too much for that truck" or " you're an idiot to pay x of dollars" it's my money and even the most prudent financial advisor would agree thatvim well within my means to pay 61k for a vehicle. I owe $0 on my 25 but did use their finacing for 21 days to get the etra 2k off the sticker then laid it off. In today's market I feel like 61k was a fair price for what I have. We own a 23 sienna and it's what really pushed me to look hard at a new Tacoma. The build was fantastic and it's been problem free and gets 40mpg on average. New F350 Limited to replace my 19 was going to be 110k. It went up 30k in 5 yrs.......

97 2wd 5MT
05 X-Runner 6MT
2010 SR5 5MT
2016 SR 6-speed auto

and now 24 TRD Sport 6MT

The 24 is night and day!

Plenty of power for a 2.4 liter turbo, solid 4.30 gearing with the manual. Interior is the best for a Tacoma, looks and bronze oxide color get many looks on the roads. With the level kit and 265/70's on 18's, stance is sweet.

I do not fool around much with gage clusters or the infotainment system, but the darn thing works as it should, no issues. Same with my 22 Corolla SE.

I have no complaints other than losing the access cab from the last gen for the model I chose.

Over 12,000 miles and climbing, no issues!
