Yours is the 2nd one I’ve heard of. I have no doubt Toyota wants the entire front diff to inspect.Well I took delivery just before the 6 month point, and I think it took them that long to figure out. I have been in for service since though...
My dealership just called and confirmed it is something in the front differential so they’re pulling the whole thing and replacing it. Not just the ADD. Which is confusing to me because I thought the explanation was that the ADD was intentionally the weak link to prevent extra damage. If that’s the design, wouldn’t you make it serviceable? I pushed back and asked about the software and he had no idea. He said he’s never seen this before and would talk to someone at Toyota (corporate?) about it.
I don’t have access to TSBs but surely one exists which would maybe shed some light on this discussion.
My question is: how do I get comfortable that this isn’t going to happen again? I was lucky to have someone with a truck “nearby” to pull me out, but I won’t always.
Ask the dealer if they can find the update S. Brown was talking about? Hopefully you’ll get it!
