It’s started getting cold again and I’ve used remote start a couple times now. I’ve noticed that when I’d get into the truck with my phone it would not connect automatically. I would either have to turn off the truck and start it again or push and hold the volume button to restart the infotainment. Curious to see if anyone else has experienced this, my google searches came up empty.

You're not alone. I noticed that this morning after I remote started mine. I was kind of confused. Had to go into the settings under connected devices and manually connect to the phone lol

Well that sounds quicker than what I’ve been doing!

I live in Alaska... Been using the remote start for awhile now... When you first get into the truck the screen is off then when you push the brake and start button then the screen turns on and usually connects to android auto... Usually

Hopefully Apple or Toyota pushes out an update to fix it? No a bit g deal to restart the screen but you shouldn’t have to.

Agreed it seems odd. In other cases if my phone doesn’t connect right away I just hit “use CarPlay” and it connects. But that doesn’t work if I used remote start.

Same thing here. I go into the "Manage Devices" screen and manually enable "Use for Android Auto".

Remote start or regular start, more often than not, I need to connect my phone manually. It's annoying that every time I get in to start start, I also need to press settings, blue tooth, pixel 8 and click the bottom tab.

I have a slightly different problem with my iPhone not always connecting (not with remote start) and not always staying connected. It was fine for the first three weeks and now it is flaky as hell.

I can connect to my iPhone with "Hey Toyota" "Connect to iPhone". That also works to launch Car Play too.

Mine doesn’t do it all of the time. But at least once it did what you described. But not completely. It seemed to hook up but with no volume.

After shutting the truck off to go shopping it worked properly again

Thanks @Goriders. Yeah - I'm still trying to figure this one out, and it is strange that it worked perfectly for the first three weeks and now it doesn't. Strange.

Happens to alot of us. It takes 2 second to click settings then use for Apple CarPlay. Maybe even half a second. It’s just what it is rate now which two clicks and you’re in. That’s better than turning off the screen and all that like some have suggested. Maybe they’ll work something in the future

not sure if other products have issues with car play that Toyota has, but Toyota is awful with car play. I find that even if you unlock the doors with the app, the next time you start the truck you need to go and reconnect to car play. Each update from apple or Toyota always nets a new problem. It’s awful. Never know what new problem you’ll get.
